Suresh Gopi calls for change in education system

Education should be a blessing  and not a burden. Today’s children are  burdened with large bags of books. The education system should change for the better where specialisation should commence from Class VII, said actor Suresh Gopi.

He was speaking after inaugurating ‘Unarvu’, the comprehensive education project for all government and aided schools in Kalamassery, initiated by Works Minister V K Ebrahim Kunju in Kalamassery Town Hall on Thursday.

He said the project should trigger a debate on the education system prevalent today. 

Suresh Gopi said the Minister should take up the issue. The project which helps the students should be implemented by all MLAs in their respective constituencies.

Presiding over the function, Ebrahim Kunju said that the project aims to ensure education security for all students in Kalamassery. ‘Unarvu’ is being launched close on the heels of Akshaya, launched a year ago wherin a nutritious components are added to the noon meal scheme.

‘Unarvu’ aims to raise the standard of education and create awareness among parents on their role in educating their wards.

Suresh Gopi also released the booklet to be  distributed to parents as part of the programme.

Those who won best teacher award from the district were honoured by District Collector Sheik Pareeth.

Former Vice-Chancellor of MG University Rajan Gurukkal gave the keynote address. Earlier, a torch rally was brought to the venue by a team of students and teachers. Deputy Director of Education M D Murali proposed the vote of thanks.

It will be implemnted in 47 government and aided schools in Kalamassery and is expected to benefit about 13,000 students. The five-year comprehensive education project will have

SIEMAT, IT@School, DIET and SSA are the co-sponsors. As the majority of students are from economically and socially backward sections, handbooks will be given to the parents to educate them on their role in building their child’s future.  Infrastructure facilities including toilets, will be bettered. Learning will be made more interesting and enjoyable.  Values, principles, traditions and culture will be instilled in students. Focus will be given to the commitment and responsibility towards society.
