Sikhs in the city gear up for Prakash Utsav

“Prakash Utsav”, the birthday celebrations of Sri Guru Nanak, first Sikh Guru and founder of Sikh religion, also a major festival for Sikhs will be celebrated on a grand scale from November 24 to 28. Prabhandak Committees of Gurudwara Saheb, Secunderabad (GSS) in association with Gurudwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha (GSGSS) and Ashok Bazar, Afzalgunj will be organising the event. 

On November 28, the day of Prakash Utsav, a grand Vishaal  Deewan (mass congregation) will be held at the N.T.R Stadium, Indira Park from 11 am to 4.30 pm, where 25,000 to 30,000 Sikh devotees are expected to converge.

Prior to that, two “Nagar Keertans” (holy processions) will be taken out by G.S Secunderabad on November 24 and by Gurudwara SGSS, Ashok Bazar on November 26 at 4 pm.

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Prabhandak Committee, Presidents, S.Baldev Singh Bagga (GSS) and S.Gurucharan Singh Bagga (GSGSS) and Chairman S Harmahinder Singh Bagga informed that the procession on November 24, will start at around 4 pm from Gurudwara Secunderabad and proceed via Clock Tower, Kingsway, Monda Market and reach Gurudwara Saheb Secunderabad in the evening.

The procession on November 26  will start from GSGSS, Afzalgunj and pass through Jambagh, Putli Bowli, Central Gurudwara Saheb Gowliguda and reach Gurudwara Singh Sabha in the evening.

Guru Granth Sahebji will be carried on a decorated vehicle along with “Nishaan Sahebans” (religious flags). Jatha Tera Jatha and Keerthani Jathas of men and women will recite Shabad Keertans (holy hymns) along the procession. A major attraction of the procession will be the display of “Gatka” a famous Sikh martial art form. Besides that also present will be the “Panj Pyaras” in their  traditional attire.

Bhai Dalbir Singh of Harmandir Sahibji (Golden Temple, Amritsar), Bhai Onkar Singhji of Una Saheb wale (Punjab), Bhai Jaswinder Singhji, Bhai Hari Singh Hazuri Ragi Jathas, Bhai Gurdit SIngh  and others will recite shabad keertans and kathas and  throw light on the teachings of Sikh Gurus. After the culmination of the congregation Guru-Ka-Langar will be served.
