Robbers make hole in wall, flee with 45 lakh jewellery

In what seems to be a well planned and well executed robbery, unidentified thieves gained entry into a jewellery shop by making hole in the wall of the store and decamped with at least one kg gold ornaments and two kg silver. The combined worth of both the metals is pegged at Rs 45 lakh. The robbery took place at the Sri Sai Venkateswara Jewellery shop located near Kaman junction in LB Nagar.

Police suspect that a professional robbery gang might have been involved in the incident.

LB Nagar inspector P Srinivas Reddy said they suspect a reccee of the place might have been conducted by the gang members.

“Between 2 and 4 am on Saturday, the theives broke open the shutters of a diagnostic centre that is adjacent to the jewellery shop. After entering the centre, they made a hole in the common wall of both the establishments and entered the store.

They decamped with the gold and silver ornaments,” police said.

After owner G Venkata Ramana entered the shop, he noticed the hole and the gold and silver ornaments missing. Distraught, he approached the LB Nagar police and lodged a complaint. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Shamshabad Sudheer Babu and other police officers rushed to the spot along with the sniffer dogs and clues team.

As many as five teams comprising senior police officials formed and took up the probe.
