Police carried out a baton charge to disperse a large gathering of people protesting against the US-made anti-Islam film here Tuesday.
According to police, a large number of Muslims gathered on the city's arterial Anna Salai shouting anti-US slogans and started proceeding towards the US consulate, around two km from the protest venue.
As the protesters tried to take out a procession past the barricades, police sought to restrain them and then baton charged them to disperse the crowd.
The protestors also torched a two wheeler parked on the road, police said.
The agitation put the traffic out of gear for couple of hours.
Activists
belonging to Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam protested outside the consulate Friday and threw stones damaging some window panes.
Police have beefed up security around the consulate, which was closed for three days.

Chennai has been held hostage by a bunch of fanatics. Time for the govt to crackdown & feed them in the prison.

What you know about the religious sentiments. If the same director makes a film on God Ram, God Shiva, God Ganesh, Jesus etc are "as a womanizer, a homosexual and a child abuser." If you are a real Indian or religious person or human being, what you will react for it. A true believer won’t keep silence. You guys are just to sit, watching TV and commending on it. Be Indian buddies. You guys do not have the true and full knowledge of Islam. Read the book of George Bernard Shaw - 'The Genuine Islam, A little knowledge is a dangerous thing - A person without full knowledge will always harm himself as well as others.
