Actor flags off eye donation rally

Around 2,000 students from various city schools and colleges participated in an eye donation awareness rally that was flagged off by actor and musician Vijay Antony and Chanchai Charanvatnakit, Consul General of Thailand, Chennai, here on Saturday.
The rally was organised by the Rotary Club of Madras and Rotary Rajan Eye Bank, as part of their national eye donation fortnight celebrations. The event commenced at the Light House and culminated at Anna Square.
District Governor of Rotary International, Raja Sreenivasan, members of the Rotary International and NGOs were also present.
The eye donation fortnight is an annual programme coordinated by the Government of India, Eye Bank Association of India, member eye banks and other organisations working for eye care and eye donation.
The fortnight has been officially notified by the Government of India to be designated from August 25 to September 8 every year.
