24 huts gutted in Besant Nagar blaze

Over 24 huts were damaged in a fire that broke out on Palaniamman Koil Street, Odaima Nagar, Besant Nagar on Sunday morning.
Police said the fire broke out around 10.50 am. Five fire tenders from Thiruvanmiyur, Mylapore, Teynampet and Raj Bhavan were rushed to spot and it tool over two hours to contain the blaze.
Hoax Bomb Threat
Tension prevailed after a jewellery store located in a multi-storey building on North Usman Road received a bomb threat call on Sunday morning.
A staff member attended the phone call, the police said, adding that the caller threatened that a bomb planted at the jewellery store would go off.
The police were soon alerted and bomb disposal and dog squads were subsequently pressed into service. Following an intensive search, it was declared a hoax call. Efforts were on to trace the caller.
