Give and take: ‘Thuppakki’ director AR Murugadoss and actor Vijay’s father S A Chandrasekar with representatives of Muslim outfits in the city on Thursday | SS Sudharshan
A day after Muslim outfits staged protests against Vijay’s latest flick Thuppakki, alleging that it portrayed the entire community as terrorists, film director A R Murugadoss, producer S Dhanu and Vijay’s father S A Chandrasekar sought to buy peace by tendering an open apology to representatives of 23 different Muslim outfits in front of the media.
They clarified that Thuppakki was made only as an entertainer and had no intention of hurting the Muslim community.
The makers of the film also agreed to mute voices during some of the scenes and entirely delete certain “objectionable frames”.
“When they (Muslim groups) pointed out how a few sequences of the film had affected them, I felt bad even though it was unintentional. I always believe that Muslims are our blood relatives and I am making an open apology to them,” said Murugadoss.
Around 10 representatives of Islam outfits met the film crew on Thursday afternoon to discuss the issue.
When producer S Dhanu said the changes sought in the film would be made in a day or two, the representatives agreed to it, though, according to them, “the wound cannot be healed.”
Meanwhile, the security provided to movie houses screening Thuppakki since Wednesday was extended on Thursday.
The same level of security will remain at all movie houses in the city and any decision to withdraw it would be taken after reviewing the threat level, said a top police source.

The Brahmin community is ridiculed with immunity in the films from time immemorial but this minority community has no muscle power and silently bear the brunt. As a matter of fact the community has learnt to live with the insults! Who will ever come to its rescue?

One has commented Brahmin community is being ridiculed. I have one question to ask Brahmin community. You have leaders like NRam, Cho Ramasamy, Subramanian Samy: these 3 heartless people ridiculed Eelam Tamils even after the infamous Genocide of Tamils in Eelam in May 2009, where over 50,000 innocent Tamil Civilians were butchered . Subramanian Swamy earlier this year went to Colombo and referred to Eelam Tamils as 'Animals'. This is there on Youtube video. As long as there are people like the three mentioned above, people are going to ridicule Brahmins.

We are once again seeing the Intolerance of the Muslim community. They think they are something special in the world, which they are not. 2 months ago, some fool in Hollywood made some stupid video and Muslims went on the rampage. USA Ambassador in Libya was killed and so much damage caused by violent Muslims. Now they are creating trouble in Chennai because of some comments in Thupakki movie. Muslims first need to change their Intolerant ways, before asking for respect. You cannot 'demand' respect, you have to 'earn' it. Public perception of Muslims has changed after 9/11. We all saw what happened on 9/11 and how so many Muslims danced on the streets across the world. When Mumbai attack happened on 26/11, was there any condemnation by Muslims? Muslims should look at themselves in the Mirror before 'asking' for respect. Muslims in India were once tolerant people. Now with theWahabbi (Intolerant Saudi) teachings going on in Mosques all over India, they have become Violent & Intolerant

The amicable solution to Thuppakki problem is most welcome. Also it is heartening to hear the declaration Muslims can't be anti-Indians is really exhilarating. Terrorism in Kashmir and Assam could be expected to elicit still more violent reaction from our Indian Muslim brothren. In such an eventuality, the terrorists from across the border would have no option but to take to their heels back when such patriots unite again to condemn their heinous atrocities. However, hypersensitive reaction to a film appears to be making mountain of a molehill.Filmmakers are the most cautious lot since their ventures involve multi-million bucks. And they are quite aware that antagonising any section would be suicidal.Even if the portrayal is intentional -can an individual,an actor or somebody, a book or a film -belittleor demean a global religion?Isn't such a thought insulting to the great Islam? If a project is to be suppressed, can't we do it by just ignoring it?What went wrong my dear patriotic brothers?
