Master of 'Rusi', chef Jacob breathes his last

05th November 2012 08:42 AM

One of the best-known celebrity chefs in the State, Jacob Sahaya Kumar Aruni (38) died of a massive cardiac arrest at a private hospital here on Sunday evening.

Popular for his TV show ‘Aaha Enna Rusi’ aired on a popular Tamil television channel every Saturday, chef Jacob was an expert in authentic south Indian cuisine and always conducted his cookery shows along the anyone-can-cook stream of thought.

He was diagnosed with a minor heart ailment about six months back and was in and out of hospitals for a while. Friends relate how the chef returned to his new restaurant on the Khader Nawaz Khan Road and worked dedicatedly despite his legs swelling up quite often.

A master chef, Jacob also entered the Guinness Book of World Records for cooking the longest barbeque at a stretch. He has written a number of books like Manakum Tamilzham, Kitchen Clinic, Saapitu Parunga and many more.

Jacob was also a consultant for popular restaurants like Rassa, owned by Sri Krishna Sweets, Crimson Chakra and has conducted food festivals across India. Jacob is survived by two brothers and a sister. He lost his father at a young age and his mother passed away a few years ago. Though Jacob always wanted to marry a widow, he died a bachelor.

A chef whose substance and interest in cooking was evident in his screen presentations. Elevated the experience of watching cookery shows to an enjoyable level. RIP. Jacob.

[!User Complaint!] god decides his fate ,he live like a favourite tasty dishes in our heart, but alas, who will councel his family? as he teaches many dishes to us the tastes remain ever in our mind, likewise his memories always with us like a greeny fresh leavesm regards, devi

Really sad that the end should come at such an early age. I do not like to offer conventional condolences and a pious appeal to any fictitious concept for giving strength to his family to bear its loss. I myself ave never tried any one of his recipes but have appreciated his cheerful presentations on the TV. I am sure there are many others like me. I only hope that the knowledge that my feelings of sadness at this untimely demise is shared by many others will help in giving some mental comfort to his family.

Iam his fan......so sad about him....he advices us to take care and eat healthy food but he failed to follow those advice....my god ....god bless him..

We miss u sir.Ur my favourite.May ur soul rest in peace...

Sad - cardiac arrest at the age of 38?

He used to cook dishes using Mutton. Most of his videos you can see him cooking Mutton Briyani which is very high in cholesterol. That is the main reason he died at a early age.
