Make-over afternoon for Chennai Sindhi Ladies Chapter

Make-up tips, skin analysis and a personality development session – this was the agenda of the latest edition of the Chennai Sindhi Ladies Chapter. The event conducted at the Quality Inn Aruna on Sterling Road is a monthly affair. “We have a different theme every time,” shared Bharti Ahuja, president of the committee.

This time around, as one can imagine, the afternoon session was dedicated to ‘looking good and feeling good’. These ladies (most who have grown children) may be well past their modeling prime, but that certainly didn’t stop them from having a blast at their make-up lesson which kicked off the afternoon on Saturday.

Over fruit punch and plenty of girly chatter, the hall steadily became completely full as Bollywood make-up expert, Karishma Bajaj worked her magic on one model volunteers from the audience.

The beauty person who has worked with the likes of Katrina Khaif , Yana Gupta and Akshay Kumar proceeded to demonstrate her brush techniques and answer the occasion query. What exactly is a lip plumper? Is there any difference between concealer and foundation? Turns out there isn’t. Also, she stressed, “Once you put on your lipstick, never do this!” she comically demonstrated smacking her lips.

There were giggles in the audience as everyone has been told to do this by their mother or older sister at some point or another.

A line of women simultaneously waited their turn outside the hall, to get a magnified glimpse of their skin, courtesy Japanese skin care brand Shiseido. Advice on how to prevent dry skin, extra large pores and pimples were dispensed freely. But perhaps the icing on the cake was the last round of grooming by Kavita Modi.

Trained at a finishing school and etiquette training insitution in Switzerland, Kavita looked the part in her lace beige jacket and formal trousers. “I have never done something like this. I usually do one-on-one sessions,” she admitted ahead of her stage time. “But we wouldn’t take no for an answer,” states chairperson for the event, Uma Wadhwa, who joined the conversation.

The grooming expert revealed, “I’m going to teach everything from first impressions to making an entrance at a social event to how to walk confidently.” she said. One highlight of her talk was definitely the ‘polite response to a never-ending handshake’. “You know how it’s rude to pull away and it’s also rude to say anything when the person just keeps shaking your hand?” she asked.

The audience was even more amused when Kavitha went on to demonstrate the situation with a volunteer. She then proceeded to offer her non-stop shaker a smile, put her free hand on top of hers (shaker’s) and smoothly slide out the hand caught within the person’s grasp. Ah, the joys of a well mannered snub, notepad anybody?
