Students from Northeastern states residing here are responded positively to the confidencebuilding measures initiated by the police and various other forums on Friday.

Many students openly voiced their anxieties during the meeting held at St Aloysius College here. During the meeting they also made a few demands such as police security and a dedicated helpline in order to curb fears of attacks.

A Muslim clergy from Edga Masjid, Saudakatulla said that there was no reason for anyone to fear his people. “Islam never teaches violence against anyone.  It only preaches harmony.  There will be no attacks by Muslims,” he stressed.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) D Dharmaiah said that the police have taken all measures to prevent any attacks on people from Northeastern states.  Fr Swebert D’Silva, principal of St Aloysius College, said that he had decided in the meeting to instill confidence among students from Northeastern states as many had approached him with requests for return to their home land
