Bangalore may be proud of its achievements in various fields, but its glory is dimmed by the number of crimes against women. A recent National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report shows that Bangalore is slowly emerging as the crime capital of the country.
The NCRB-2011 report ranks Bangalore second, after Delhi, in terms of incidence and rate of crime against women during 2011, as compared to other major cities.
The number of crimes against women, including molestation, rape, immoral trafficking, dowry deaths, cruelty by husband and indecent representation of women, stood at 1,890 in 2011, as against 1,570 in 2010.
Women activists say failure of policing system and implementation of laws, increasing migration of people to urban areas are the causes.
“There is a disillusion with the judicial and police systems. We need an alternative system of justice and political will to make laws more effective,” said Donna Fernandes of Vimochana, a women’s rights organisation. As many as 74 per cent of the rape victims were in the age group of 17-30 years, and 52 per cent of the offenders were either relatives or neighbours of the victims.
However, taking a different view, ADGP (Crime), Bangalore, A M Prasad said cases had increased because of the growing awareness among people. “Assaults on women have increased because of matrimonial disputes. People file false rape cases if marriage proposals break up. We are also giving gender-sensitivity training for policemen to handle such cases,” Prasad added.

yes. i too saw that family. Habits such as smoking,...etc have nothing to do with the high quality genes. for convenience people use habits to label a person. that is foolish. That woman, mentioned here by the other reader, even had a child and her own relative says, that woman herself murdered that child. But they are experts in committing serious crimes, taking expert opinion from that food-coupon-thief uncle who himself is the son of a coolie and his brother-in-law was asked to leave at two companies for corporate fraud. Under his upbringing this woman and her brother turned out to be criminals behind innocent faces. Since without any values in life and being from a totally incompetent loser family, They seriously damaged the cultured family's reputation, filed false cases and caused serious damage, out of frustration that the life they led all these years, got exposed and also due to criminal thinking. The damage was very huge. what to say of such criminal families.

oh ! that family. yes, we know. we have seen them from close quarters. Neither any achievement in ECONOMIC STATUS nor any significant progress in CULTURAL STATURE.. They were boycotted by society and were from a horribly poor and thoroughly criminal family background. They pulled that cultured family to the streets, took money and all ornaments including the boy's ornament and filed false cases and ran away. In a marriage, that is NOT THE WAY TO BEHAVE. Instead of apologizing and setting matters right, they chose to run away. I heard they insulted the boy and his family, a lot. That woman later showed her true colours. She now goes on with multiple partners without her family's knowledge. Her brother, that incompetent loser, still speaks impractical communism speech.But one day, they each have to perish since they brought too many people into a marriage and snatched the wife and now that brother very cleverly is in the public domain.
