Bangalore University’s teachers have resolved that Vice-Chancellor Dr N Prabhu Dev has to demit office forthwith, ‘in the interest of restoring the credibility that the university otherwise enjoyed during earlier regimes’.
As many as 90 teachers belonging to various faculties from Central College and Jnanabharathi campuses met at the general body meeting of the Bangalore University Teachers’ Council (BUTC) held this week.
A major part of the discussion was the tenure of Prabhu Dev as VC.
“The university has reached its lowest in recent years.
Prabhu Dev is least concerned for employees, students and the faculty.
The academic and physical environment in the university is unbearable.
His style of administration is autocratic, authoritarian, feudal and essentially colonial by design.
He has least respect for any democratic style of functioning,” reads a note from BUTC.
One of the resolutions made was to ignore the VC’s letter which he allegedly issued to all university teachers asking them not to recognise BUTC.
“He has also directed all the teachers not to correspond with the officebearers of the BUTC.
It was unanimously resolved to ignore the VC’s letter,” stated the BUTC note.
BUTC resolved that it is the prerogative of the general body alone to manage the affair of the association.
In this connection, BUTC has appointed Prof B A Kagle as the returning officer for the election.
This comes after the VC apparently appointed his own administrator and returning officer to manage the activities of BUTC.
All attempts to reach VC Prabhu Dev proved futile as he was unavailable for comments.
