A 21-year-old labourer of a granite company was killed on the spot when a granite block fell on him in the factory on Hosur Road on Friday night.
The incident took place at Hindustan Marble and Granite (HMG) in Attibele Industrial Area while he was loading the granite block.
The family of the deceased and other workers of the factory staged a protest against the management.
The Attibele police rushed to the spot and resorted to a mild lathi charge to disperse the crowd and detained some labourers.
The deceased, identified as Raju, a native of Malavalli in Mandya was working as a daily wager in the factory and was staying in Attibele along with his co-workers.
According to the police, the incident took place late at night when Raju was loading granite blocks into the lorry.
He sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to a private hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
According to the sources, after the incident the management authorities of the factory tried to get away instead of admitting him to a hospital. They immediately called the local police for security to avoid any untoward incident.
