‘Segregation units not feasible under flyovers’

Urban experts have trashed Mayor D

Venkatesh Murthy’s suggestion to set up segregation units under flyovers terming it “unscientific” and “not-feasible.”

The Mayor, on Monday, came up with the idea of setting up segregation units under flyovers across the city and constructing compound walls on the both sides.

pathetic condition. It has

its own set of problems. It

is unscientific to set up

segregation units under

flyovers. Palike should think of a permanent solution

to solve garbage crisis instead of coming up with such suggestions.”

V Ravichandar, urban infrastructure expert, said the mayor’s suggestion was “impractical.”

He said, “Segregation units need more space. Besides, there will be lot of movement by people who come to handover dry waste. There is no space under flyovers for entry or exist.”

Meanwhile, the mayor wrote to Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar on Tuesday requesting him to handover BDA flyovers to the BBMP. In his letter, the mayor said there were many flyovers, underpasses, pedestrian paths and roads belonging to the BDA. Public were facing problems here as there were no street lights. Also, due to the lack of maintenance, potholes were posing a threat to people’s movement on these roads.

The mayor requested the CM to either direct BDA to maintain these public places properly or hand them over to BBMP. He has appealed to the CM to direct the Principal Secretary of the department concerned.
