30 toilets for 7,500 EWS quarters!

Yesterday was the World Toilet Day.  So, when the city is plagued with several woeful issues from bird flu to garbage, City Express tried to find out the plight of the prevailing sanitary conditions.

“For 7,500 families we have 40 toilets, of which only 10 are operational. The remaining have no proper water connection. The corporator knows about this, but no action has been taken so far,” said X Luvies, President of Dr BR Ambedkar Youth Social Welfare Association who belongs to EWS (Economically Weaker Section) quarters.

From K.R Market to Majestic to the Commercial Street, even the urban areas are devoid of proper public sanitation. Although, many parts of the city are blessed with  ‘Nirmal shauchalya’, which are toilets constructed for the public, the conditions of these are mournful.
