Understanding the magnitude of the garbage mess, many non-profit and private organisations have come forward to help the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) in waste recycling.
NobleExchange Environment Solutions Pvt Ltd (NEX) is one such organisation which has promised to play a major role in recycling of wet waste generated by bulk generators.
To address the issue, the organisation has been in discussion with the BBMP commissioner Rajneesh Goel.
KS Girish Kumar, Regional Manager of NobleExchange said, “We will not charge any money or demand funds from the BBMP. However, we have asked for a piece of land in the BBMP limits to carry out the process of recycling wet waste accumulated by bulk generators in Bangalore city.”
On its part, the Palike had already appointed an expert committee to look into waste disposal by bulk generators and Rajneesh Goel had also directed all the eight zonal commissioners to issue notices to 20 big bulk generators in their zones and collect the status of garbage management.
In such a scenario, this initiative will be of great significance to the bulk generators. Informing further on the initiative, Girish said, “We had a discussion with the hotel association president Vasudev Adiga and he has assured that they will give us their full cooperation.
We will talk to other big institutions as well and try to include them in our proposal to generate biogas.”

A secondary level segregation plant at central site ensures separation of organic waste from other inorganic materials (waste from hotels, restaurants, etc.). The central processing plant is an anaerobic digestion system (CSTR technology) with water based cleaning, scrubbing and compression system that converts the organic waste slurry into CBG. This CBG/Electricity produced at the processing plant will then be marketed to institutional clients for replacement of conventional energy sources such as LPG, diesel, kerosene, furnace oil, etc. Further, the by-products generated from the process will be nitrogen rich and can be used as organic fertilizers. Waste water from the system is re-circulated to ensure minimal fresh water requirement or discharge.
