All-women crew takes the floor

In 2002, actress turned director Revathy hogged the limelight for her film Mitr — My Friend which consisted of an all women crew.

Taking the cue from this team, a Kannada film will be specially made for women.

With a striking title, Ranjini Ravindra Das, an advocate by profession, has taken over as the producer with Priya Belliappa directing the film.

Ranjini says, “This film draws inspiration from a real-life incident with the basic gist being, “Every boy looks at a girl as a beautiful person but women might have a different perspective about the same girl.

We are trying to explore the reason for the same in the movie.

” With story and direction by Priya Belliappa, the film will have 19 women technicians.

“Apart from Priya, everyone right from camera work (Maulshri Singh), dialogues (Rekha Rani), editing (Sanchari Das Mollick), art direction (Apoorva), make-up (Charu), costume designing (Bharati Chabria) and even the PRO work will be done by a lady,” says Ranjini. With Priya Beliappa being the brain behind this concept, the entire team was chosen from across the country.

“The conviction and passion towards cinema is what led us to form an all-women team,” said Ranjini, who is ready with the script as they plan to start the shoot in December.

“We will soon finalise the heroine and the actress will be trained by a lady, Asha Chandra who has groomed several actresses like Dimple Kapadia and other such personalities.

The heroine will also be attending a workshop before she starts shooting,” explains Ranjini.

Director Beliappa, who has taken the responsibility as the captain of the ship says, “It is apparent that men and women are pretty much doing the same job nowadays. Everybody is skilled in their own way. When I came to Bangalore, I saw very few women who worked on scripts and screenplay. So, I decided to go ahead and thought about an all- women team and now all of us will tell the story together. We are now a group of 19 technicians who are ready to take off,” said Priya, who will be directing this full length feature film.

There is a misconception that women can’t work together and I really don’t agree with such statements, she asserted, “It is all about team work. We are working towards a vision. As a director, I respect everybody’s decision. Though each person will have his or her own opinion, the best idea will come forward. Ultimately, it will be our responsibility to make a good film,” Priya said.
