As a precaution, all the birds at Central Poultry Development Organisation (CPDO) in Hessarghatta were culled and disposed of on Wednesday following the outbreak and subsequent spread of avian influenza.
Of the 33,277 birds, authorities culled 19,154 chicken on Tuesday. The remaining birds, including chicken, ducks, emus and an ostrich, were culled on Wednesday.
Officials of the Department of Animal Husbandry said culling was done in keeping with the guidelines of the Government of India Action Plan (revised) 2012 for control and containment of avian influenza.
Also, 11,939 eggs were destroyed on Wednesday. With this, the entire set of birds in the CPDO campus have fallen prey to avian influenza which first killed almost 3,600 turkeys 10 days ago.
A release said that sanitation procedures are on in the sheds and pens in the campus where these birds were housed.
About 119 serum samples and 119 cloacal samples have been sent for tests. However, no unusual bird deaths have been reported in parts of Hessarghatta outside of the campus.
