A final year diploma student has been arrested for allegedly raping his 19-year-old friend. However, police sources said, Chandru, 21, of Gulbarga and a student of a private college in Thippasandra and the girl had consensual sex. The parents are planning to get them married.

The incident took place at Chandru’s rented room in Kaggadasapura.

Police said the victim Sanjana (name changed), a diploma student at a private college in Koramangala, was a neighbour of Chandru’s  sister in Sudhamanagar in J B Nagar. Chandru visited his sister frequently and during one such visit about 15 days ago, he met Sanjana and learnt that she was also a diploma student. They became close and Sanjana asked him to help her in project work.

“On Sunday evening, she went to Chandru’s room and stayed back late, when he allegedly raped her. On Monday, she filed a rape case against him after which he was arrested,” police said.

However, a source said the two had gone to Forum Mall to watch a movie on Sunday. “They did not get tickets and returned to Chandru’s room. She stayed back there after which the “incident” happened. When she returned home on Monday, her father asked her where she had gone. The girl told him Chandru had taken her to his room and raped her. The father took her to the police station where she filed a rape case,” the source said, adding that the parents later decided to get them married.

this can happen only in India. Rapist get to marry their victims. The police should playing matchmakers, take the rape case tnrough its natural course of legal process and get the rapist punished for his act. Everything else happens later. Marriage does not absolve one from the crime.
