As many as 2.14 lakh candidates have registered for the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2012, the only gateway for admission into 13 Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and other prestigious B-schools in the country.

The sale of vouchers and registration forms for CAT 2012 has gone up marginally by four per cent this year when compared to 2.05 lakh registrations in 2011.

IIM Kozhikode (IIM-K) will be conducting the CAT this year with Prof S S S Kumar as the convener.

Like the previous years, the cities which have recorded the highest number of candidates are Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Pune.

Also, this year, the IIMs have witnessed a marginal increase in the number of female candidates with 28 percent of the registrations as compared to 27 per cent last year.

Prometric, a provider of technology enabled testing and assessment solutions will develop and deliver CAT in collaboration with the IIM-K.

The entrance test will be conducted in 61 centres in 36 cities across the country. The test pattern will remain the same as that of last year and there will be two separately timed sections in the test.

CAT is the only way for entry into the IIMs in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Kolkata, Indore, Kashipur, Kozhikode, Lucknow, Raipur, Ranchi, Rohtak, Shillong, Tiruchirappalli and Udaipur.

CAT 2012 will be held between October 11 and November 6.

The results will be announced on Jan 9, 2013.
