Global energy company, Shell announced that they will soon commence operations in new research and development (R&D) in Bangalore.
The company, which already employs 900 people here, will increase their headcount to 1500 people. Yasmine Hilton, Chairman Shell Companies (India) said that Bangalore would become the third destination after Houston (Texas) and Amsterdam (Holland).
Though the company refused to comment on the total investment for the R&D centre, senior officials of the company had earlier shared that it was nearly $300 million.
Express, in August 2012, reported that Shell would be increasing their headcount by setting up an R&D centre in a 40 acre space in Devanahalli, near Bangalore.
With this R&D centre, the company would have a total of 60 sites across Bangalore and Chennai of the total licences for 2000 sites that the company had.
Officials said that the company had spent $1.1 billion for R&D in 2011.
On deregulation of diesel, Hilton said that the decision was in the hands of the government.
