Sensex flat with negative bias at open

Indian equities are trading flat with negative bias in early trade on Tuesday. At 09.19 a.m., the Sensex was trading down 38.55 points or 0.21% at 18,503.76 with 15 components falling. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 2.05 points or 0.04% at 5,612.05 with 23 components gaining.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a decline of 27.59 points or 0.15% at 18,514.72, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a fall of 7.60 points or 0.14%, at 5,602.40.
Sensex Movers
I C I C I Bank contributed fall of
12.14 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Housing Development
Finance Corporation (11.69 points), Tata Motors (8.39 points), Tata
Consultancy Services (8.14 points) and Wipro (4.38 points).
However, Infosys contributed rise of 19.15 points in the Sensex. It was followed by H D F C Bank (7.3 points), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (5.07 points), Bharti Airtel (3.47 points) and Bharat Heavy Electricals (2.52 points).
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Infosys (1.26%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (1.22%), Jindal Steel & Power (1.13%), Bharti Airtel (0.87%), Dr Reddy"S Laboratories (0.72%), and Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (0.71%).
On the other hand, Hindalco Industries (1.92%), Wipro (1.55%), Tata Motors (1.39%), I C I C I Bank (0.89%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (0.84%), and Tata Consultancy Services (0.83%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Smallcap index was at 6696.85 down by 0.81 points or by 0.01%.The major losers were Action Construction Equipment (3.73%), Atlanta (2.25%), Bliss GVS Pharma (2.19%), Balmer Lawrie Investment (0.9%) and Balrampur Chini Mills (0.67%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Power index was at 1,929.00, up by 7.25 points or by 0.38%. The major gainers were Lanco Infratech (2.33%), Adani Power (2.09%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (1.22%), Reliance Infrastructure (0.4%) and JSW Energy (0.28%).
The IT index was at 6,019.27, up by 12.99 points or by 0.22%. The major gainers were Tech Mahindra (2.09%), Infosys (1.26%), Financial Technologies (India) (0.24%) and Hexaware Technologies (0.12%).
The Metal index was at 10,473.10, down by 47.98 points or by 0.46%. The major losers were Hindalco Industries (1.92%), Bhushan Steel (1.38%), JSW Steel (1.15%), Coal India (0.8%) and Hindustan Zinc (0.51%).The Auto index was at 10,096.98, down by 28 points or by 0.28%. The major losers were Tata Motors (1.39%), Hero Motocorp (0.22%) and Exide Industries (0.03%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was positive with 438 advances against 253 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
Kingfisher Airlines topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 25.63 million. It was followed by United Spirits (Rs. 19.42 million), State Bank Of India (Rs. 18.46 million) and Spicejet (Rs. 15.53 million).
The volume chart was led by Kingfisher Airlines with trades of over 1.90 million shares. It was followed by Spicejet (0.41 million), Lanco Infratech (0.26 million) and Geojit BNP Paribas Financial Services (0.14 million).
