Sensex gains 108 points; Realty, bank stocks rally

Indian markets continue to trade with decent gains as unexpected 25 bps CRR cut byRBIindicatedpositive news for realty and banking stocks. At 11.57 a.m., the Sensex was trading up 108.37 points or 0.59% at 18,572.64 with 18 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 31.60 points or 0.57% at 5,609.25 with 31 components gaining.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 155.63 points or 0.84% at 18,619.90, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a rise of 54.10 points or 0.97%, at 5,631.75.
Sensex Movers
ICICI Bank contributed rise of 65.13 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Reliance Industries (53.68 points), Larsen & Toubro (31.26 points), State Bank Of India (20.4 points) and Tata Motors (20.13 points).
However, I T C contributed fall of 63.84 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Infosys (36.17 points), Tata Consultancy Services (28.45 points), Hindustan Unilever (7.83 points) and HDFC Bank (6.97 points).
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were ICICI Bank (4.86%), Jindal Steel & Power (4.37%), Tata Motors (3.50%), Larsen & Toubro (3.35%), State Bank Of India (3.25%), and Reliance Industries (3.07%).
On the other hand, ITC (3.58%), Tata Consultancy Services (2.84%), Dr Reddy"s Laboratories (2.71%), Infosys (2.40%), Wipro (1.36%), and Coal India (1.29%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.70% and 0.83% respectively. The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Alok Industries (3.96%), Alstom India (1.2%), Amara Raja Batteries (0.92%), Aban Offshore (0.67%) and CORE Education and Technologies (0.52%).The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were Reliance MediaWorks (2.49%), A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (1.17%), Trident (0.93%), ABG Infralogistics (0.75%) and Adhunik Metaliks (0.35%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Realty index was at 1,711.70, up by 78.65 points or by 4.82%. The major gainers were Indiabulls Real Estate (6.22%), DLF (4.64%), Anant Raj Industries (2.06%), Godrej Properties (0.74%) and DB Realty (0.62%).
The Capital Goods index was at 10,301.04, up by 258.29 points or by 2.57%. The major gainers were BEML (4.46%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (2.71%), Alstom India (1.2%), Bharat Electronics (0.82%) and ABB (0.62%).
The Bankex index was at 12,482.93, up by 294.09 points or by 2.41%. The major gainers were Canara Bank(4.96%), I C I C I Bank (4.86%), Bank Of Baroda (3.99%), Bank Of India (3.02%) and Federal Bank (2.64%).
On the other hand, the IT index was at 6,057.38, down by 146.3 points or by 2.36%. The major losers were Hexaware Technologies (5.09%), Infosys (2.4%), H C L Technologies (2.35%), Mphasis (0.31%) and Oracle Financial Services Software (0.27%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was positive with 1,481 advances against 1,112 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
State Bank Of India topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,325.88 million. It was followed by Spicejet (Rs. 745.07 million), Reliance Industries (Rs. 568.47 million) and ICICI Bank (Rs. 516.24 million).
The volume chart was led by Spicejet with trades of over 19.15 million shares. It was followed by Kingfisher Airlines (11.67 million), Lanco Infratech (6.62 million) and Housing Development and Infrastructure (4.32 million).
