Sensex rise in early trade; Bajaj Auto, Hero Motocorp gain

Indian equities continued to rise in early trade for the seventh day on Thursday. The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 23.92 points or 0.13% at 18,023.95, while the broad based NSE Nifty began flat with a gain of 4.20 points or 0.08%, at 5,435.20.
The Sensex was trading up 26.60 points or 0.15% at 18,026.63 with 17 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 1.05 points or 0.02% at 5,432.05 with 26 components gaining.
Sensex Movers
I C I C I Bank contributed rise of 14.11 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (7.85 points), Reliance Industries (7.13 points), Larsen & Toubro (5.18 points) and Hero Motocorp (4.03 points).
However, Bharti Airtel contributed fall of 7.77 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Housing Development Finance Corporation (6.86 points), Infosys (3.97 points), Tata Motors (3.3 points) and Mahindra & Mahindra (2.88 points).
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Bajaj Auto (1.90%), Hero Motocorp (1.86%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (1.11%), I C I C I Bank (1.09%), G A I L (India) (1.01%), and Bharat Heavy Electricals (0.86%).
On the other hand, Jindal Steel & Power (2.92%), Bharti Airtel (1.91%), Cipla (0.74%), Tata Steel (0.70%), Mahindra & Mahindra (0.68%), and Hindalco Industries (0.64%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.21% and 0.21% respectively. The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Apollo Tyres (2.71%), Amtek Auto (0.51%), Aban Offshore (0.33%), Andhra Bank (0.27%) and Anant Raj Industries (0.11%).The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were Alembic (0.93%), Reliance MediaWorks (0.85%), Genesys International Corporation (0.81%), Ajanta Pharma (0.24%) and A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (0.17%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Capital Goods index was at 9,723.01, up by 59.65 points or by 0.62%. The major gainers were Bharat Electronics (1.61%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (0.86%), A B B (0.6%), Alstom T&D India (0.25%) and Havell"S India (0.17%).
The PSU index was at 7,110.93, up by 39.48 points or by 0.56%. The major gainers were Bharat Electronics (1.61%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (0.86%), Bank Of India (0.72%), Andhra Bank (0.27%) and Allahabad Bank (0.21%).
On the other hand, the Metal index was at 9,894.02, down by 74.92 points or by 0.75%. The major losers were Jindal Steel & Power (2.92%), Sesa Goa (1.26%), JSW Steel (0.75%), Hindalco Industries (0.64%) and Bhushan Steel (0.11%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was positive with 867 advances against 548 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
United Spirits topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 93.71 million. It was followed by Kemrock Industries and Exports (Rs. 81.77 million), State Bank Of India (Rs. 59.18 million) and I C I C I Bank (Rs. 50.19 million).
The volume chart was led by Spicejet with trades of over 1.14 million shares. It was followed by Kemrock Industries and Exports (1.06 million), Kingfisher Airlines (0.68 million) and Deccan Chronicle Holdings (0.40 million).
