Sensex gains over 200 pts in early trade

Indian equities gained in early trade on Friday. At 09.18 a.m, the Sensex was trading up 244.18 points or 1.41% at 17,590.45 with 30 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 71.05 points or 1.36% at 5,309.45 with 50 components gaining.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 229.52 points or 1.32% at 17,575.79, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a rise of 71.05 points or 1.36%, at 5,309.45.
Sensex Movers
I C I C I Bank contributed rise of
33.39 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Infosys (25.51
points), Reliance Industries (25.08 points), Tata Motors (20.27
points) and Larsen & Toubro (16.69 points).
However, ACC contributed fall of 0.87 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Grasim Industries (1.65 points), Tata Power Company (1.76 points), Reliance Communications (1.78 points) and Hero Motocorp (2.13 points).
All shares in the Sensex settled with a positive note. Major were Tata Motors (3.84%), Tata Steel (3.59%), Hindalco Industries (3.20%), Sterlite Industries (India) (2.88%), I C I C I Bank (2.67%), and Jindal Steel & Power (2.03%).
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps underperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.94% and 0.74% respectively.The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Amtek Auto (2.14%), Alstom India (1.92%), Alok Industries (1.7%), CORE Education and Technologies (1.36%) and Aban Offshore (0.98%).The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (2.82%), Reliance MediaWorks (2.39%), Hitachi Home and Life Solutions (India) (1.78%), Alembic Pharmaceuticals (1.76%) and Advanta India (1.73%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Metal index was at 9,707.35, up by 217.13 points or by 2.29%. The major gainers were Hindalco Industries (3.2%), JSW Steel (2.41%), Jindal Steel & Power (2.03%), Hindustan Zinc (1.59%) and Coal India (0.56%).
The Auto index was at 9,496.07, up by 188.93 points or by 2.03%. The major gainers were Exide Industries (1.9%), Bajaj Auto (1.61%), Ashok Leyland (1.45%), Hero Motocorp (1%) and Bharat Forge (0.72%).
The IT index was at 5,976.67, up by 104.46 points or by 1.78%. The major gainers were Hexaware Technologies (2.1%), H C L Technologies (1.72%), Mphasis (1.37%), CORE Education and Technologies (1.36%) and Oracle Financial Services Software (0.75%).
The Bankex index was at 11,548.97, up by 197.09 points or by 1.74%. The major gainers were Canara Bank(2.09%), Bank Of Baroda (1.8%), Bank Of India (1.56%), H D F C Bank (0.87%) and Federal Bank (0.56%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was positive with 564 advances against 79 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
State Bank Of India topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 32.06 million. It was followed by Tata Steel (Rs. 20.30 million), Infosys (Rs. 17.74 million) and Axis Bank (Rs. 15.12 million).
The volume chart was led by Mercator with trades of over 0.29 million shares. It was followed by Spicejet (0.13 million), Housing Development and Infrastructure (0.09 million) and Jaiprakash Associates (0.08 million).
