Sensex ends up 56 points; GAIL, Jindal Steel, RIL rally

Indian equities endedon a flat note withpositivebias led by realty, oil & gas and power stocks.At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex gained 56.47 points or 0.32% at 17,440.87 with 18 components posting rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went up by 20.25 points or 0.39% at 5,274 with 32 components registering rise.Sensex Movers
Reliance Industries contributed rise of 30.38 points in the Sensex. It was followed by ICICI Bank (11.72 points), Tata Motors (8.95 points), Hindustan Unilever (7.83 points) and State Bank Of India (7.28 points).
However, Housing Development Finance Corporation contributed fall of 19.99 points in the Sensex. It was followed by ITC (8.42 points), Infosys (4.13 points), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (3.58 points) and Wipro (2.56 points).
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were GAIL (India) (2.60%), Jindal Steel & Power (2.44%), Reliance Industries (1.87%), Tata Motors (1.71%), Tata Steel (1.41%), and State Bank Of India (1.25%).
On the other hand, Housing Development Finance Corporation (1.54%), Cipla (1.47%), Tata Power Company (1.28%), Bajaj Auto (0.98%), Wipro (0.96%), and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (0.61%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.53% and 0.39% respectively. The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Aban Offshore (7.45%), Allcargo Logistics (2.09%), Andhra Bank (1.81%), Alstom India (0.2%) and Amara Raja Batteries (0.16%).The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were Action Construction Equipment (3.27%), Reliance MediaWorks (1.85%), A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (1.26%), Trident (0.69%) and Aarti Industries (0.33%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Realty index was at 1,521.67, up by 23.78 points or by 1.59%. The major gainers were Indiabulls Real Estate (7.61%), Housing Development and Infrastructure (4.78%), D L F (1.34%), D B Realty (0.62%) and Godrej Properties (0.11%).
The Oil & Gas index was at 8,243.21, up by 97.33 points or by 1.19%. The major gainers were G A I L (India) (2.6%), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (2.16%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation (1.91%), Gujarat State Petronet (0.83%) and Cairn India (0.04%).
The Power index was at 1,890.37, up by 17.30 points or by 0.92%. The major gainers were G M R Infrastructure (3.5%), Adani Power (3.11%), Reliance Infrastructure (1.36%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (1.13%) and A B B (0.28%).
On the other hand, the IT index was at 5,731.64, down by 2.73 points or by 0.05%. The major losers were Oracle Financial Services Software (2.58%), CORE Education and Technologies (1.11%), Mphasis (1.03%), Wipro (0.96%) and Infosys (0.3%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was positive with 1,570 advances against 1,235 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
United Spirits topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 732.91 million. It was followed by State Bank Of India (Rs. 644.81 million), Vikas Wsp (Rs. 393.19 million) and JSW Steel (Rs. 323.56 million).
The volume chart was led by Kingfisher Airlines with trades of over 7.96 million shares. It was followed by Vikas Wsp (5.71 million), IFCI (4.62 million) and Reliance Communications (3.77 million).
