Sensex gains over 100 pts; JSPL, Hero Motocorp, HDFC rise

Indian equities gained in early trade on Friday. At 10.06 a.m., the Sensex was trading up 144.02 points or 0.74% at 19,557.56 with 25 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 45.75 points or 0.78% at 5,909.05 with 45 components gaining.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 65.13 points or 0.34% at 19,478.67, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a rise of 20.35 points or 0.35%, at 5,883.65.
Sensex Movers
Housing Development Finance Corporation
contributed rise of 29.69 points in the Sensex. It was followed by
I T C (21.07 points), Reliance Industries (19.19 points), Oil &
Natural Gas Corporation (15.75 points) and H D F C Bank (12.07
points).
However, Infosys contributed fall of 17.64 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Tata Consultancy Services (4.01 points), Tata Motors (2.06 points), D L F (0.3 points) and Sterlite Industries (India) (0.51 points).
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Jindal Steel & Power (2.95%), Hero Motocorp (2.44%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (2.04%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (1.92%), G A I L (India) (1.70%), and Tata Steel (1.66%).
On the other hand, Infosys (1.02%), Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (0.91%), Tata Consultancy Services (0.37%), Tata Motors (0.31%), and Bajaj Auto (0.00%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.78% and 0.95% respectively. The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Allcargo Logistics (3.1%), Aban Offshore (2.05%), A B G Shipyard (1.12%), Allahabad Bank (1.01%) and Alstom India (0.48%).The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were Action Construction Equipment (2.46%), Adhunik Metaliks (1.78%), Aarti Industries (0.92%), Reliance MediaWorks (0.84%) and Trident (0.73%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Oil & Gas index was at 8,975.42, up by 130.90 points or by 1.48%. The major gainers were Bharat Petroleum Corporation (2.75%), Cairn India (2.03%), G A I L (India) (1.7%), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (1.7%) and Castrol India (1.26%).
The PSU index was at 6,982.62, up by 84.76 points or by 1.23%. The major gainers were Andhra Bank(1.51%), Bank Of India (1.4%), Bank Of Baroda (1.24%), Allahabad Bank (1.01%) and Bank Of Maharashtra (0.85%).
The Consumer Durables index was at 7,263.46, up by 77.63 points or by 1.08%. The major gainers were Titan Industries (1.91%), T T K Prestige (0.73%), Rajesh Exports (0.53%), Gitanjali Gems (0.31%) and Bajaj Electricals (0.19%).
On the other hand, the IT index was at 7,041.11, down by 18.49 points or by 0.26%. The major losers were Infosys (1.02%) and Tata Consultancy Services (0.37%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was positive with 1,301 advances against 583 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
Multi Commodity Exchange of India topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,081.55 million. It was followed by Asahi India Glass (Rs. 284.51 million), Housing Development and Infrastructure (Rs. 160.23 million) and United Breweries (Rs. 139.52 million).
The volume chart was led by Asahi India Glass with trades of over 5.49 million shares. It was followed by Housing Development and Infrastructure (2.27 million), Suzlon Energy (1.41 million) and Kingfisher Airlines (1.35 million).
