Sensex bounces back; IT, CG, Realty lead

Indian equities turned positivetowards closing on ThursdayledbyIT, capital goods and realty stocks.At 2.50 pm, the Sensex was trading up 89.04 points or 0.46% at 19,341.65 with 16 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 22.35 points or 0.38% at 5,840.95 with 25 components gaining.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a decline of 30.56 points or 0.16% at 19,222.05, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a fall of 17.30 points or 0.30%, at 5,801.30.
Sensex Movers
Tata Consultancy Services contributed
rise of 19.87 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Infosys
(19.32 points), Larsen & Toubro (17.52 points), H D F C Bank
(17.09 points) and I T C (13.43 points).
However, Hindustan Unilever contributed fall of 10.14 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Tata Motors (7.66 points), Reliance Industries (6.85 points), Bharti Airtel (1.78 points) and Hindalco Industries (1.5 points).
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Hero Motocorp (3.77%), Wipro (1.95%), Larsen & Toubro (1.88%), Tata Consultancy Services (1.87%), Maruti Suzuki India (1.75%), and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (1.54%).
On the other hand, Jindal Steel & Power (2.60%), Hindustan Unilever (1.72%), Coal India (1.17%), Tata Motors (1.16%), Hindalco Industries (0.93%), and G A I L (India) (0.46%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Sectors in Limelight
The IT index was at 7,049.09, up by 104.50 points or by 1.50%. The major gainers were Hexaware Technologies (3.21%), H C L Technologies (1.9%), Oracle Financial Services Software (1.86%), Tech Mahindra (1.72%) and Infosys (1.13%).
The Capital Goods index was at 9,661.82, up by 136.41 points or by 1.43%. The major gainers were Crompton Greaves (3.29%), Alstom India (2.04%), A B B (1.78%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (1.5%) and F A G Bearings India (0.97%).
The Realty index was at 2,060.21, up by 25.27 points or by 1.24%. The major gainers were Anant Raj (5.18%), D L F (2.86%), Prestige Estates Projects (1.44%), Parsvnath Developers (0.7%) and Sobha Developers (0.58%).
On the other hand, the Consumer Durables index was at 7,170.94, down by 55.85 points or by 0.77%. The major losers were Symphony (1.78%), Titan Industries (1.57%), Blue Star (0.78%), Bajaj Electricals (0.6%) and Videocon Industries (0.52%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was negative with 1,357 advances against 1,424 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
D L F topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 496.36 million. It was followed by Glenmark Pharmaceutical (Rs. 494.80 million), Tata Consultancy Services (Rs. 483.71 million) and State Bank Of India (Rs. 426.24 million).
The volume chart was led by Adani Power with trades of over 5.45 million shares. It was followed by Suzlon Energy (4.67 million), Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision (4.53 million) and Housing Development and Infrastructure (4.15 million).
