Sensex gains 77 pts in early trade

Indian equities continued to rally in early trade on Wednesday. At 09.17 a.m., the Sensex was trading up 77.49 points or 0.40% at 19,220.66 with 22 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 32.35 points or 0.56% at 5,816.60 with 38 components gaining.

The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 111.03 points or 0.58% at 19,254.20, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a rise of 32.15 points or 0.56%, at 5,816.40.

Sensex Movers

Larsen & Toubro contributed rise of 14.02 points in the Sensex. It was followed by I C I C I Bank (10.92 points), Infosys (10.49 points), Reliance Industries (9.59 points) and Tata Motors (9.24 points).

However, I T C contributed fall of 7.55 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Hindustan Unilever (5.85 points), Mahindra & Mahindra (3.78 points), Tata Steel (2.65 points) and Grasim Industries (1.11 points).

Major gainers in the 30-share index were Hindalco Industries (1.67%), Sterlite Industries (India) (1.53%), Larsen & Toubro (1.51%), Tata Motors (1.41%), Bharti Airtel (1.21%), and Coal India (0.99%).

On the other hand, Hindustan Unilever (1.00%), Tata Steel (0.96%), Mahindra & Mahindra (0.77%), Cipla (0.44%), I T C (0.39%), and Hero Motocorp (0.22%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.

Market Breadth

Market breadth was positive with 504 advances against 119 declines.

Value and Volume Toppers

United Spirits topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 23.26 million. It was followed by Essar Oil (Rs. 14.38 million), Larsen & Toubro (Rs. 10.45 million) and State Bank Of India (Rs. 10.07 million).

The volume chart was led by Bajaj Hindusthan with trades of over 0.21 million shares. It was followed by Spicejet (0.19 million), Bartronics India (0.18 million) and NHPC (0.18 million).
