Sensex up 65.99 pts; CG, power, metal rise

Indian equities bounced back on Friday snapping earlier losses. At 10.07 a.m., the Sensex was trading up 65.99 points or 0.35% at 18,927.53 with 16 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 23.70 points or 0.42% at 5,716.75 with 25 components gaining.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened flat with a rise of 15.14 points or 0.08% at 18,876.68, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a rise of 9.40 points or 0.17%, at 5,702.45.
Sensex Movers
Larsen & Toubro contributed rise of
23.95 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Infosys (22.68
points), Housing Development Finance Corporation (17.46 points), I
C I C I Bank (15.63 points) and Maruti Suzuki India (6.26
points).
However, Reliance Industries contributed fall of 11.4 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (8.16 points), Tata Consultancy Services (7.63 points), Bharti Airtel (4.92 points) and Hero Motocorp (4.14 points).
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Jindal Steel & Power (3.17%), Larsen & Toubro (2.61%), Maruti Suzuki India (2.61%), Wipro (1.68%), Coal India (1.61%), and Infosys (1.42%).
On the other hand, Hero Motocorp (2.15%), Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (1.73%), NTPC (1.19%), Bharti Airtel (1.04%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (1.02%), and Tata Steel (0.97%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps underperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.33% and 0.05% respectively.The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were CORE Education and Technologies (8.84%), A B G Shipyard (0.48%), Alstom India (0.34%), Allahabad Bank (0.33%) and A I A Engineering (0.09%).The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were Aarti Industries (1.97%), Aegis Logistics (1.55%), A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (1.39%), Ajanta Pharma (0.89%) and Trident (0.62%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Capital Goods index was at 9,351.48, up by 166.98 points or by 1.82%. The major gainers were Bharat Electronics (2.13%), A B B (1.08%), Alstom India (0.34%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (0.25%) and A I A Engineering (0.09%).
The Power index was at 1,762.63, up by 18.56 points or by 1.06%. The major gainers were Adani Power (2.69%), Reliance Infrastructure (2.59%), Crompton Greaves (2.53%), A B B (1.08%) and Bharat Heavy Electricals (0.25%).
The Metal index was at 9,164.49, up by 96.54 points or by 1.06%. The major gainers were Jindal Steel & Power (3.17%), NMDC (1.68%), Coal India (1.61%), JSW Steel (1.33%) and Hindustan Zinc (0.09%).
On the other hand, the Realty index was at 1,987.55, down by 22.8 points or by 1.13%. The major losers were D L F (3.18%), Sobha Developers (1.84%), Anant Raj (1.13%), Parsvnath Developers (0.69%) and Prestige Estates Projects (0.59%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was negative with 910 advances against 903 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
United Spirits topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 269.66 million. It was followed by Strides Arcolab (Rs. 239.43 million), Suzlon Energy (Rs. 220.02 million) and State Bank Of India (Rs. 211.91 million).
The volume chart was led by Suzlon Energy with trades of over 11.73 million shares. It was followed by CORE Education and Technologies (2.26 million), I F C I (1.25 million) and Unitech (0.98 million).
