Sensex drops over 100 pts ahead of Railway Budget

Indian markets dropped on Tuesday erasing earlier gains. At 10.08 a.m., the Sensex was trading down 105.26 points or 0.54% at 19,226.43 with 24 components falling. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading lower by 32.50 points or 0.56% at 5,822.25 with 38 components falling.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a decline of 41.03 points or 0.21% at 19,290.66, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a fall of 16.45 points or 0.28%, at 5,838.30.
Sensex Movers
I C I C I Bank contributed fall of 24
points in the Sensex. It was followed by Reliance Industries (20.1
points), Housing Development Finance Corporation (19.23 points),
Larsen & Toubro (14.84 points) and Tata Motors (11.84
points).
However, Bharti Airtel contributed rise of 18.86 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Infosys (11.86 points), I T C (8.08 points), Tata Consultancy Services (6.97 points) and Hindustan Unilever (1.4 points).
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Bharti Airtel (3.91%), Infosys (0.73%), Tata Consultancy Services (0.70%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (0.58%), I T C (0.43%), and Hindustan Unilever (0.24%).
On the other hand, Maruti Suzuki India (2.34%), Tata Motors (1.82%), I C I C I Bank (1.63%), Larsen & Toubro (1.59%), Hindalco Industries (1.50%), and Mahindra & Mahindra (1.40%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps underperformed their larger counterparts declining -0.91% and -0.75% respectively.The major losers in the BSE Midcap were Allcargo Logistics (1.95%), Aban Offshore (1.9%), Alstom India (1.53%), A I A Engineering (1.19%) and Allahabad Bank (0.38%).The major losers in the BSE Smallcap were Aanjaneya Lifecare (20%), Aarti Industries (2.8%), Trident (1.9%), Styrolution ABS (India) (1.31%) and A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (1.15%).
Sectors in Limelight
The IPO index was at 1,704.61, down by 35.86 points or by 2.06%. The major losers were Aanjaneya Lifecare (20%), Credit Analysis and Research (2.47%), Birla Pacific Medspa (1.33%), Innoventive Industries (1.11%) and Bharti Infratel (0.78%).
The Auto index was at 10,639.83, down by 145.04 points or by 1.34%. The major losers were Bharat Forge (2.06%), Mahindra & Mahindra (1.4%), Ashok Leyland (1.29%), Hero Motocorp (1.02%) and Bajaj Auto (0.87%).
The Capital Goods index was at 9,397.49, down by 117.37 points or by 1.23%. The major losers were A B B (2.02%), Alstom India (1.53%), Crompton Greaves (1.23%), A I A Engineering (1.19%) and Bharat Electronics (0.81%).
On the other hand, the TECk index was at 3,902.62, up by 30.72 points or by 0.79%. The major gainers were Bharti Airtel (3.91%), Idea Cellular (3.25%), Dish TV India (0.77%), Mphasis (0.44%) and Oracle Financial Services Software (0.09%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was negative with 582 advances against 1,165 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
Zee Entertainment Enterprises topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 488.49 million. It was followed by CORE Education and Technologies (Rs. 132.92 million), United Spirits (Rs. 124.08 million) and State Bank Of India (Rs. 92.30 million).
The volume chart was led by Zee Entertainment Enterprises with trades of over 2.23 million shares. It was followed by Cals Refineries (1.22 million), CORE Education and Technologies (1.16 million) and Suzlon Energy (1.07 million).
