Sensex falls 76 points ahead of Railway Budget

Indian equities dropped in early trade on Tuesday erasing earlier gains. At 09.19 a.m., the Sensex was trading down 75.60 points or 0.39% at 19,256.09 with 25 components falling. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading lower by 28.55 points or 0.49% at 5,826.20 with 44 components falling.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a decline of 41.03 points or 0.21% at 19,290.66, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a fall of 16.45 points or 0.28%, at 5,838.30.
Sensex Movers
Reliance Industries contributed fall of
13.92 points in the Sensex. It was followed by I C I C I Bank
(12.29 points), Housing Development Finance Corporation (12.06
points), Larsen & Toubro (11.27 points) and Tata Motors (9.9
points).
However, Bharti Airtel contributed rise of 18.65 points in the Sensex. It was followed by I T C (7.45 points), Infosys (4.34 points), Tata Consultancy Services (3.47 points) and Bharat Heavy Electricals (1.34 points).
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Bharti Airtel (3.86%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (0.65%), I T C (0.39%), Tata Consultancy Services (0.35%), and Infosys (0.27%).
On the other hand, Maruti Suzuki India (1.52%), Tata Motors (1.52%), Mahindra & Mahindra (1.23%), Larsen & Toubro (1.21%), Hindalco Industries (1.17%), and Coal India (1.04%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Midcap index was at 6503.45 down by 26.08 points or by 0.4%.The major losers were Amtek Auto (1.64%), Amara Raja Batteries (1.63%), Aban Offshore (1.25%), Allahabad Bank (0.82%) and Amtek India (0.48%).
The BSE Smallcap index was at 6458.22 down by 17.43 points or by 0.27%.The major losers were Aanjaneya Lifecare (20%), Wagend Infra Venture (4.99%), Adhunik Metaliks (1.12%), A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (0.65%) and Aegis Logistics (0.04%).
Sectors in Limelight
The IPO index was at 1,714.58, down by 25.89 points or by 1.49%. The major losers were Aanjaneya Lifecare (20%), Lovable Lingerie (2.49%), L&T Finance Holdings (2.16%), Credit Analysis and Research (0.77%) and Bharti Infratel (0.73%).
The Auto index was at 10,658.16, down by 126.71 points or by 1.17%. The major losers were Ashok Leyland (1.07%), Bharat Forge (0.66%), Bajaj Auto (0.57%), Hero Motocorp (0.5%) and Exide Industries (0.2%).
The Metal index was at 9,379.96, down by 78.01 points or by 0.82%. The major losers were Hindalco Industries (1.17%), Coal India (1.04%), JSW Steel (0.8%), Jindal Steel & Power (0.73%) and Bhushan Steel (0.27%).
On the other hand, the TECk index was at 3,893.90, up by 22.00 points or by 0.57%. The major gainers were Bharti Airtel (3.86%), Idea Cellular (2.9%), Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) (0.66%), Tech Mahindra (0.29%) and Infosys (0.27%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was negative with 270 advances against 455 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
Bharti Airtel topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 46.24 million. It was followed by CORE Education and Technologies (Rs. 28.34 million), A B G Shipyard (Rs. 23.12 million) and Jet Airways (India) (Rs. 18.84 million).
The volume chart was led by Allied Computers International (Asia) with trades of over 0.25 million shares. It was followed by CORE Education and Technologies (0.24 million), Avance Technologies (0.20 million) and Southern Ispat and Energy (0.19 million).
