Sensex trades up 52 points; IT up nearly 2%, Realty down 1.1%

Indian marketsare higherin noon trade on Monday led bybuying activity seen in IT, technology and auto stocks. At 12.06 pm, the Sensex was trading up 52.04 points or 0.27% at 19,369.05 with 17 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 16.70 points or 0.29% at 5,867 with 28 components gaining.

The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 48.32 points or 0.25% at 19,365.33, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a rise of 20.25 points or 0.35%, at 5,870.55.

Sensex Movers

Infosys contributed rise of 39.01 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Tata Motors (17.25 points), Tata Consultancy Services (10.92 points), Housing Development Finance Corporation (8.49 points) and I C I C I Bank (7.36 points).

However, Reliance Industries contributed fall of 14.18 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (11.19 points), Larsen & Toubro (7.6 points), Bharti Airtel (4.05 points) and Hindustan Unilever (3.01 points).

Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Tata Motors (2.56%), Infosys (2.45%), Wipro (1.47%), Tata Consultancy Services (1.10%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (0.98%), and State Bank Of India (0.86%).

On the other hand, Coal India (1.93%), Cipla (1.75%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (1.39%), Dr Reddy"S Laboratories (0.96%), Bharti Airtel (0.82%), and Larsen & Toubro (0.81%) were the major losers in the Sensex.

Mid & Small-cap Space

The BSE Mid and small caps underperformed their larger counterparts declining 0.09% and 0.06% respectively.The major losers in the BSE Midcap were A B G Shipyard (19.99%), CORE Education and Technologies (13.48%), Allahabad Bank (1.09%), Aban Offshore (0.96%) and A I A Engineering (0.45%).The major losers in the BSE Smallcap were Aanjaneya Lifecare (20%), Action Construction Equipment (3.45%), A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (1.73%), Trident (0.59%) and Aarti Industries (0.17%).

Sectors in Limelight

The Realty index was at 2,088.91, down by 24.21 points or by 1.15%. The major losers were D L F (2.4%), Housing Development and Infrastructure (1.47%), Indiabulls Real Estate (0.8%), Godrej Properties (0.75%) and Anant Raj (0.53%).

The Oil & Gas index was at 8,977.83, down by 82.14 points or by 0.91%. The major losers were Bharat Petroleum Corporation (2.37%), Indian Oil Corporation (1.71%), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (1.59%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (1.39%) and Oil India (1.36%).

The Consumer Durables index was at 7,081.34, down by 55.14 points or by 0.77%. The major losers were Videocon Industries (3.05%), Titan Industries (1.31%), Gitanjali Gems (0.51%) and Symphony (0.35%).

On the other hand, the IT index was at 6,727.24, up by 122.16 points or by 1.85%. The major gainers were Mphasis (3.26%), Infosys (2.45%), H C L Technologies (1.48%), Hexaware Technologies (0.4%) and Oracle Financial Services Software (0.07%).

Market Breadth

Market breadth was negative with 1,132 advances against 1,256 declines.

Value and Volume Toppers

Infosys topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 236.72 million. It was followed by State Bank Of India (Rs. 229.20 million), Reliance Capital (Rs. 168.33 million) and Jet Airways (India) (Rs. 156.48 million).

The volume chart was led by Alok Industries with trades of over 3.80 million shares. It was followed by I F C I (3.43 million), Welspun Corp (1.81 million) and Orient Green Power Company (1.69 million).
