Sensex ends flat; Bharti up 4.6%, HUL down 2.6%

Indian equities ended the listlesssession onflat noteon Friday. Realty and technology stocks traded higher while FMCG stocks were under pressure. At the close, the 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex ended flat with a decline of 8.35 points or 0.04% at 19,317.01, 15 components registering drop. while the broad based NSE Nifty closed flat with a decline of 1.95 points or 0.03%, at 5,850.30.24 components registering drop. ITC contributed fall of 29.08 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Housing Development Finance Corporation (26.8 points), Hindustan Unilever (15.11 points), H D F C Bank (13.81 points) and Tata Motors (10.72 points).
However, Bharti Airtel contributed rise of 22.79 points in the Sensex. It was followed by I C I C I Bank (18.51 points), Infosys (12.59 points), Reliance Industries (12.09 points) and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (7.46 points).
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Bharti Airtel (4.64%), Wipro (2.43%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (1.96%), I C I C I Bank (1.22%), Mahindra & Mahindra (0.95%), and G A I L (India) (0.87%).
On the other hand, Hindustan Unilever (2.60%), Coal India (2.31%), Maruti Suzuki India (2.09%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (1.84%), Tata Motors (1.60%), and I T C (1.50%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Midcap settledhigher1.59 points or 0.02% at 6,609.03 however the Bse Smallcap gained7.15 points or 0.11% at 6,564.76 at the closing.The major losers in the BSE Midcap were Aban Offshore (2.18%), Amara Raja Batteries (1.97%), Alstom India (1.58%), CORE Education and Technologies (1.18%) and Anant Raj (0.23%).The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were Styrolution ABS (India) (1.83%), Advanta India (1.47%), Aarti Industries (1.16%), Adhunik Metaliks (0.27%) and A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (0.16%).
Sectors in Limelight
The TECk index was at 3,822.19, up by 49.20 points or by 1.30%. The major gainers were Idea Cellular (4.82%), Bharti Airtel (4.64%), Deccan Chronicle Holdings (1.79%), G T L (0.69%) and Mphasis (0.11%).
The Realty index was at 2,110.26, up by 25.28 points or by 1.21%. The major gainers were D L F (3.16%), Indiabulls Real Estate (0.8%), Parsvnath Developers (0.57%), Oberoi Realty (0.49%) and Unitech (0.34%).
The IT index was at 6,603.44, up by 53.00 points or by 0.81%. The major gainers were Mahindra Satyam (1.19%), Infosys (0.79%), H C L Technologies (0.47%), Tech Mahindra (0.35%) and Mphasis (0.11%).
On the other hand, the FMCG index was at 5,661.79, down by 95.57 points or by 1.66%. The major losers were United Breweries (4.61%), Hindustan Unilever (2.6%), Godrej Consumer Products (1.83%), I T C (1.5%) and Colgate-Palmolive (India) (1.49%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was negative with 1,418 advances against 1,500 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
State Bank Of India topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 743.58 million. It was followed by Jet Airways (India) (Rs. 446.82 million), D L F (Rs. 424.12 million) and Infosys (Rs. 421.44 million).
The volume chart was led by Sybly Industries with trades of over 10.31 million shares. It was followed by Ashok Leyland (9.32 million), I F C I (4.56 million) and Suzlon Energy (4.17 million).
