Sensex flat with negative bias at open

Indian equitiesare flat with negative biasin early trade on Tuesday. At 09.19 a.m., the Sensex was trading down 6.93 points or 0.04% at 19,494.15 with 17 components falling. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading lower by 5.35 points or 0.09% at 5,892.85 with 23 components falling.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 22.62 points or 0.12% at 19,523.70, while the broad based NSE Nifty began flat with a gain of 2.00 points or 0.03%, at 5,900.20.
Tata Consultancy Services contributed fall of 6.26 points in the Sensex. It was followed by I T C (6.19 points), Bharti Airtel (4.5 points), Infosys (2.94 points) and Larsen & Toubro (1.51 points).
However, Housing Development Finance Corporation contributed rise of 7.15 points in the Sensex. It was followed by I C I C I Bank (5.72 points), Mahindra & Mahindra (1.94 points), Wipro (1.79 points) and ACC (1.14 points).
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Cipla (0.78%), Wipro (0.62%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (0.51%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (0.51%), I C I C I Bank (0.41%), and Mahindra & Mahindra (0.40%).
On the other hand, Bharti Airtel (0.91%), Tata Consultancy Services (0.84%), Maruti Suzuki India (0.60%), Coal India (0.54%), I T C (0.38%), and Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (0.35%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.27% and 0.27% respectively. The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were A B G Shipyard (1.87%), CORE Education and Technologies (1.05%), Alstom India (0.98%), Aban Offshore (0.55%) and Allahabad Bank (0.47%).The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were Ajanta Pharma (4.7%), Adhunik Metaliks (1.68%), Action Construction Equipment (1.42%), A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (1.04%) and Alok Industries (0.3%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Realty index was at 2,085.64, up by 6.74 points or by 0.32%. The major gainers were Anant Raj (0.92%), Housing Development and Infrastructure (0.58%), Indiabulls Real Estate (0.49%), D L F (0.34%) and Godrej Properties (0.03%).
The Oil & Gas index was at 8,938.89, up by 13.65 points or by 0.15%. The major gainers were Cairn India (0.79%), Oil India (0.44%), G A I L (India) (0.22%) and Petronet LNG (0.17%).
The IPO index was at 1,744.73, down by 7.77 points or by 0.44%. The major losers were Multi Commodity Exchange of India (1.27%), Flexituff International (0.43%), MT Educare (0.28%), Lovable Lingerie (0.26%) and Aanjaneya Lifecare (0.01%).The Metal index was at 9,934.65, down by 18.03 points or by 0.18%. The major losers were Coal India (0.54%), Jindal Steel & Power (0.21%), JSW Steel (0.2%), Hindalco Industries (0.18%) and Sterlite Industries (India) (0.15%).
Market breadth was positive with 533 advances against 252 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
Intellivate Capital Ventures -PPS topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 0.00 million. It was followed by Jet Airways (India) (Rs. 33.86 million), Welspun Corp (Rs. 22.56 million) and State Bank Of India (Rs. 21.14 million).
The volume chart was led by Kingfisher Airlines with trades of over 0.41 million shares. It was followed by Welspun Corp (0.25 million), Suzlon Energy (0.24 million) and Hotel Leela Venture (0.15 million).
