Sensex flat-to-negative; Auto, Consumer Durables down

Indian equities were flat with negative bias in early trade on Thursday. At 10.18 am., the Sensex was trading down 16.39 points or 0.08% at 19,591.69 with 17 components falling. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading lower by 3.65 points or 0.06% at 5,929.30 with 30 components falling.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened flat with a rise of 18.73 points or 0.10% at 19,626.81, while the broad based NSE Nifty began flat with a gain of 0.25 points or 0.00%, at 5,933.20.
Sensex Movers
Tata Motors contributed fall of 14.09
points in the Sensex. It was followed by Bharti Airtel (12.03
points), State Bank Of India (11.62 points), Maruti Suzuki India
(8.05 points) and Wipro (7.06 points).
However, Infosys contributed rise of 17.18 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Tata Consultancy Services (15.25 points), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (12.14 points), H D F C Bank (8.55 points) and I T C (4.59 points).
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Tata Consultancy Services (1.54%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (1.53%), G A I L (India) (1.48%), Infosys (1.07%), NTPC (0.98%), and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (0.87%).
On the other hand, Maruti Suzuki India (2.96%), Bharti Airtel (2.38%), Wipro (2.36%), Tata Motors (2.20%), Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (1.63%), and State Bank Of India (1.60%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps underperformed their larger counterparts declining -0.36% and -0.45% respectively.The major losers in the BSE Midcap were A B G Shipyard (1.91%), Alstom India (1.51%), Aban Offshore (0.54%), A I A Engineering (0.41%) and CORE Education and Technologies (0.17%).The major losers in the BSE Smallcap were Adhunik Metaliks (2.79%), Styrolution ABS (India) (2.19%), Action Construction Equipment (1.27%), A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (1.25%) and Advanta India (0.4%).
Sectors in Limelight
The IT index was at 6,549.01, up by 51.22 points or by 0.79%. The major gainers were Infosys (1.07%), Tech Mahindra (1.05%), Mahindra Satyam (0.6%), H C L Technologies (0.35%) and Oracle Financial Services Software (0.23%).
The Oil & Gas index was at 9,191.11, up by 42.82 points or by 0.47%. The major gainers were G A I L (India) (1.48%), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (1.31%), Cairn India (0.56%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation (0.31%) and Castrol India (0.2%).
The Auto index was at 10,794.70, down by 158.05 points or by 1.44%. The major losers were Exide Industries (2.1%), Ashok Leyland (1.52%), Hero Motocorp (1.51%), Bharat Forge (1.48%) and Bajaj Auto (1.15%).The Consumer Durables index was at 7,285.79, down by 48.42 points or by 0.66%. The major losers were Titan Industries (0.69%), Blue Star (0.49%), Gitanjali Gems (0.35%), Bajaj Electricals (0.18%) and Rajesh Exports (0.13%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was negative with 758 advances against 1,145 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
State Bank Of India topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 304.71 million. It was followed by Tata Steel (Rs. 215.20 million), United Spirits (Rs. 200.47 million) and Unitech (Rs. 105.92 million).
The volume chart was led by Unitech with trades of over 3.60 million shares. It was followed by D B Realty (1.00 million), Suzlon Energy (0.96 million) and Housing Development and Infrastructure (0.87 million).
