Sensex up over 100 points; Tata Motors, Bharti surge

Indian equities continue totrade in the positive terrain in the post noon trade today. IT, technology and realty stocks gained ground while power and metal stocks declined.
At 2.04 p.m., the Sensex was trading up 106.85 points or 0.55% at 19,667.89 with 14 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 30.25 points or 0.51% at 5,952.75 with 23 components gaining.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 40.65 points or 0.21% at 19,601.69, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a rise of 20.65 points or 0.35%, at 5,943.15.
Sensex Movers
Housing Development Finance Corporation contributed rise of 21.41 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Tata Motors (19.19 points), Tata Consultancy Services (18.69 points), Infosys (18.58 points) and I C I C I Bank (18.1 points).
However, State Bank Of India contributed fall of 6.34 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Hindustan Unilever (4.54 points), Maruti Suzuki India (3.08 points), Tata Steel (2.81 points) and Sterlite Industries (India) (2.57 points).
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Tata Motors (2.98%), Bharti Airtel (2.25%), Tata Consultancy Services (1.88%), Mahindra & Mahindra (1.72%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (1.45%), and Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (1.17%).
On the other hand, Bajaj Auto (1.58%), Sterlite Industries (India) (1.42%), G A I L (India) (1.42%), Hindalco Industries (1.33%), Maruti Suzuki India (1.13%), and Cipla (1.11%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Midcap and Smallcap index rose 0.47% and 0.32% respectively.
Sectors in Limelight
The IT index was at 6,495.90, up by 80.73 points or by 1.26%. The major gainers were H C L Technologies (3.36%), Infosys (1.15%), Tech Mahindra (0.91%), Mphasis (0.81%) and Hexaware Technologies (0.24%).
The TECk index was at 3,816.34, up by 45.34 points or by 1.20%. The major gainers were Bharti Airtel (2.25%), D B Corp (2.11%), Reliance MediaWorks (1.6%), Mphasis (0.81%) and Idea Cellular (0.18%).
The Realty index was at 2,106.87, up by 20.54 points or by 0.98%. The major gainers were Anant Raj (5.82%), Godrej Properties (3.21%), Oberoi Realty (2%), Parsvnath Developers (1.17%) and Indiabulls Real Estate (0.49%).
On the other hand, the Power index was at 1,861.15, down by 8.35 points or by 0.45%. The major losers were C E S C (2.38%), Reliance Infrastructure (1.77%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (0.67%), A B B (0.32%) and Crompton Greaves (0.29%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was positive with 1,462 advances against 1,274 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
State Bank Of India topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 533.79 million. It was followed by United Spirits (Rs. 411.98 million), Unitech (Rs. 405.10 million) and Karnataka Bank , The (Rs. 287.78 million).
The volume chart was led by Unitech with trades of over 13.62 million shares. It was followed by Kingfisher Airlines (4.71 million), Lanco Infratech (3.03 million) and Cals Refineries (2.96 million).
