Sensex up 60 pts to trade above 19,600

Indian equities are trading higher with some buying seen in IT, technology and capital goods. However metal, oil & gas and PSU stocks witnessed a fall.BSE Midcap and Smallcap index underperformed the benchmark indices.
At 11.47 a.m., the Sensex was trading up 59.79 points or 0.31% at 19,640.11 with 18 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 11.20 points or 0.19% at 5,950 with 24 components gaining.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened flat with a decline of 3.13 points or 0.02% at 19,577.19, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a fall of 9.70 points or 0.16%, at 5,929.10.
Sensex Movers
Tata Consultancy Services contributed rise of 26.61 points in the Sensex. It was followed by H D F C Bank (13.9 points), Larsen & Toubro (12.96 points), Infosys (8.61 points) and Housing Development Finance Corporation (8.53 points).
However, Reliance Industries contributed fall of 13.44 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Hindustan Unilever (6.69 points), I C I C I Bank (4.27 points), Sterlite Industries (India) (3.51 points) and Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (2.6 points).
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Tata Consultancy Services (2.88%), Wipro (2.02%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (1.48%), Larsen & Toubro (1.31%), NTPC (1.25%), and Bajaj Auto (1.06%).
On the other hand, Cipla (2.63%), Coal India (2.56%), Sterlite Industries (India) (1.77%), Hindalco Industries (1.32%), Hindustan Unilever (1.14%), and Maruti Suzuki India (0.93%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps underperformed their larger counterparts declining -0.22% and -0.27% respectively.The major losers in the BSE Midcap were A I A Engineering (1.81%), A B G Shipyard (1.47%), Aban Offshore (1.35%), Alstom India (0.6%) and CORE Education and Technologies (0.28%).The major losers in the BSE Smallcap were Adhunik Metaliks (4.74%), A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (3.95%), Aanjaneya Lifecare (2.03%), Styrolution ABS (India) (1.92%) and Action Construction Equipment (1.45%).
Sectors in Limelight
The IT index was at 6,516.45, up by 94.60 points or by 1.47%. The major gainers were Hexaware Technologies (2.67%), H C L Technologies (0.85%), Infosys (0.54%), Oracle Financial Services Software (0.54%) and Mphasis (0.21%).
The TECk index was at 3,821.49, up by 47.73 points or by 1.26%. The major gainers were Idea Cellular (1.3%), Reliance MediaWorks (1%), Bharti Airtel (0.66%), Oracle Financial Services Software (0.54%) and Mphasis (0.21%).
The Metal index was at 10,168.11, down by 72.59 points or by 0.71%. The major losers were Coal India (2.56%), Hindalco Industries (1.32%), Hindustan Zinc (0.96%), NMDC (0.37%) and Bhushan Steel (0.21%).The Oil & Gas index was at 9,078.80, down by 42.19 points or by 0.46%. The major losers were Bharat Petroleum Corporation (1.41%), Indian Oil Corporation (0.55%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (0.31%), Cairn India (0.28%) and Castrol India (0.08%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was negative with 1,024 advances against 1,341 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
Indiabulls Financial Services topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 5,072.49 million. It was followed by NTPC (Rs. 372.48 million), Strides Arcolab (Rs. 313.72 million) and Tata Consultancy Services (Rs. 243.90 million).
The volume chart was led by Indiabulls Financial Services with trades of over 17.76 million shares. It was followed by Suzlon Energy (4 million), Kingfisher Airlines (2.87 million) and NTPC (2.48 million).
