Sensex flat with negative bias; Cipla, Sterlite, NTPC drop

Indian equities continued to drop on Thursday. At 10.03 a.m, the Sensex was trading down 18.57 points or 0.09% at 19,621.15 with 19 components falling. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading lower by 5.95 points or 0.10% at 5,953.25 with 33 components falling.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a decline of 50.28 points or 0.26% at 19,589.44, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a fall of 22.75 points or 0.38%, at 5,936.45.
Sensex Movers
I T C contributed fall of 9.48 points
in the Sensex. It was followed by H D F C Bank (7.19 points),
Larsen & Toubro (6.28 points), NTPC (4.66 points) and Bharti
Airtel (3.76 points).
However, Housing Development Finance Corporation contributed rise of 14.87 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Infosys (9.45 points), Tata Consultancy Services (3.83 points), Reliance Industries (2.97 points) and Tata Motors (2.75 points).
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Housing Development Finance Corporation (1.06%), Infosys (0.60%), Tata Motors (0.44%), Tata Consultancy Services (0.42%), Hindustan Unilever (0.38%), and Mahindra & Mahindra (0.34%).
On the other hand, Cipla (2.03%), Sterlite Industries (India) (1.58%), NTPC (1.54%), Hero Motocorp (1.50%), G A I L (India) (0.96%), and Bajaj Auto (0.77%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
Sectors in Limelight
The Consumer Durables index was at 7,495.25, down by 66.42 points or by 0.88%. The major losers were Bajaj Electricals (2.46%), Titan Industries (1.35%), T T K Prestige (0.24%), Rajesh Exports (0.19%) and Gitanjali Gems (0.06%).
The Metal index was at 10,319.93, down by 40.52 points or by 0.39%. The major losers were Sterlite Industries (India) (1.58%), Sesa Goa (1.23%), Jindal Steel & Power (0.53%), Bhushan Steel (0.37%) and Coal India (0.23%).
The Capital Goods index was at 10,199.98, down by 33.3 points or by 0.33%. The major losers were Alstom T&D India (0.63%), A B B (0.37%), Alstom India (0.21%), A I A Engineering (0.03%) and Bharat Electronics (0%).
On the other hand, the IT index was at 6,415.91, up by 34.27 points or by 0.54%. The major gainers were Hexaware Technologies (2.77%), Tech Mahindra (1.59%), Mphasis (0.66%), Infosys (0.6%) and Oracle Financial Services Software (0.56%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was positive with 937 advances against 782 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
Container Corporation Of India topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 334.42 million. It was followed by Jubilant FoodWorks (Rs. 154.69 million), United Spirits (Rs. 137.66 million) and PC Jeweller (Rs. 107.64 million).
The volume chart was led by Shri Ganesh Spinners with trades of over 2.45 million shares. It was followed by Manappuram Finance (1.90 million), Suzlon Energy (1.87 million) and PC Jeweller (0.77 million).
