Nifty trades up 25 points; Metal, CD, realty rise

Indian markets continues to trade higher in late morningsession today. BSE Midcap and Smallcap index outperformed the benchmark indices. Metal, consumer durables and realty stocks led the advance.Investors are cautious ahead of the 2013/14 budget to beannounced later this month which is a key event for market.
At 11.09 am, the Sensex was trading up 71.11 points or 0.36% at 19,730.93 with 22 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 25.20 points or 0.42% at 5,982.10 with 39 components gaining.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 77.95 points or 0.40% at 19,737.77, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a rise of 31.15 points or 0.52%, at 5,988.05.
Sensex Movers
Housing Development Finance Corporation contributed rise of 28.53 points in the Sensex. It was followed by I T C (10.6 points), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (10.14 points), Tata Steel (5.87 points) and Maruti Suzuki India (5.05 points).
However, Hindustan Unilever contributed fall of 8.81 points in the Sensex. It was followed by I C I C I Bank (8.08 points), NTPC (4.69 points), Reliance Industries (3.3 points) and H D F C Bank (2.32 points).
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Jindal Steel & Power (2.22%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (2.03%), Maruti Suzuki India (1.86%), Tata Steel (1.84%), Sterlite Industries (India) (1.53%), and Hindalco Industries (1.50%).
On the other hand, NTPC (1.54%), Hindustan Unilever (1.49%), Hero Motocorp (0.68%), I C I C I Bank (0.51%), Cipla (0.32%), and Tata Motors (0.23%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.66% and 0.71% respectively. The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Anant Raj (1.35%), Amtek India (1.22%), A B G Shipyard (1.11%), Alstom India (0.69%) and Amtek Auto (0.68%).The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were Adhunik Metaliks (2.23%), Aarti Industries (1.78%), Styrolution ABS (India) (1.74%), Aanjaneya Lifecare (0.93%) and Trident (0.21%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Metal index was at 10,478.60, up by 148.53 points or by 1.44%. The major gainers were Jindal Steel & Power (2.22%), JSW Steel (1.65%), Hindalco Industries (1.5%), Bhushan Steel (1.47%) and Coal India (0.82%).
The Consumer Durables index was at 7,653.82, up by 96.68 points or by 1.28%. The major gainers were Symphony (4.99%), Gitanjali Gems (0.99%), Blue Star (0.96%), Bajaj Electricals (0.68%) and Rajesh Exports (0.15%).
The Realty index was at 2,218.71, up by 24.75 points or by 1.13%. The major gainers were Parsvnath Developers (3.06%), Anant Raj (1.35%), D L F (1.27%), Indiabulls Real Estate (1.02%) and Housing Development and Infrastructure (1.01%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was positive with 1,422 advances against 819 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
Sayaji Hotels topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 615.14 million. It was followed by Jubilant FoodWorks (Rs. 536.65 million), United Spirits (Rs. 296.17 million) and Sun TV Network (Rs. 215.59 million).
The volume chart was led by Suzlon Energy with trades of over 5.19 million shares. It was followed by Sayaji Hotels (4.80 million), Aadhaar Ventures India (4.20 million) and Lanco Infratech (1.82 million).
