Sensex gains 95 pts in opening trade

Indian equities bounced back in early trade on Monday snapping earlier losses. At 09.18 a.m., the Sensex was trading up 95.31 points or 0.48% at 19,876.50 with 25 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 30.30 points or 0.51% at 6,029.20 with 41 components gaining.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 79.78 points or 0.40% at 19,860.97, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a rise of 26.30 points or 0.44%, at 6,025.20.
I C I C I Bank contributed rise of 30.79 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Tata Motors (17.82 points), Housing Development Finance Corporation (8.14 points), H D F C Bank (6.06 points) and State Bank Of India (5.16 points).
However, Bharat Heavy Electricals contributed fall of 1.88 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Hindustan Unilever (0.51 points), Maruti Suzuki India (0.05 points), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (0.51 points) and Mahindra & Mahindra (0.57 points).
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Tata Motors (2.68%), I C I C I Bank (1.96%), Hindalco Industries (1.15%), G A I L (India) (0.83%), Sterlite Industries (India) (0.80%), and State Bank Of India (0.66%).
On the other hand, Bharat Heavy Electricals (0.82%), Coal India (0.22%), Hindustan Unilever (0.09%), Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (0.04%), and Bajaj Auto (0.02%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps underperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.45% and 0.36% respectively.The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Aban Offshore (0.71%), Allahabad Bank (0.66%), Anant Raj (0.61%), Amara Raja Batteries (0.61%) and Amtek Auto (0.33%).The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were Aarti Industries (2.51%), A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (1.52%), Aegis Logistics (1.22%), Trident (1.09%) and Advanta India (0.32%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Auto index was at 10,991.84, up by 106.00 points or by 0.97%. The major gainers were Ashok Leyland (1.62%), Cummins India (0.93%), Exide Industries (0.45%), Hero Motocorp (0.37%) and Bharat Forge (0.2%).
The Bankex index was at 14,596.79, up by 131.63 points or by 0.91%. The major gainers were I C I C I Bank (1.96%), Bank Of Baroda (0.73%), Canara Bank (0.69%), H D F C Bank (0.41%) and Federal Bank (0.29%).
The Realty index was at 2,231.69, up by 19.10 points or by 0.86%. The major gainers were Indiabulls Real Estate (1.53%), D L F (1.19%), Housing Development and Infrastructure (0.64%), Anant Raj (0.61%) and Parsvnath Developers (0.48%).
The IPO index was at 1,885.10, up by 13.63 points or by 0.73%. The major gainers were Bharti Infratel (1.87%), Acropetal Technologies (1.12%), L&T Finance Holdings (1.05%), Flexituff International (0.81%) and Credit Analysis and Research (0.29%).
Market breadth was positive with 591 advances against 157 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
Alstom T&D India topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 46.97 million. It was followed by I F B Agro Industries (Rs. 34.35 million), L I C Housing Finance (Rs. 34.21 million) and Jet Airways (India) (Rs. 31.87 million).
The volume chart was led by Alembic with trades of over 0.54 million shares. It was followed by Suzlon Energy (0.38 million), Sigrun Holdings (0.31 million) and Alstom T&D India (0.26 million).
