Market trades flat; BHEL plunges 4% on weak Q3

Indian equities continue to trade flat in noon session on Friday. At 12.13 pm, the Sensex was trading up 8 points or 0.04% at 19,902.98 with 19 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading lower by 1.00 points or 0.02% at 6,033.75 with 19 components falling. Shares ofBHEL plunged over 4% after the company reported drop of 17.5%inthird quarter profit to Rs 11.82 billion.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened flat with a rise of 12.23 points or 0.06% at 19,907.21, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a rise of 6.20 points or 0.10%, at 6,040.95.
Sensex Movers
Reliance Industries contributed rise of 22.18 points in the Sensex. It was followed by I C I C I Bank (6.68 points), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (5.38 points), Tata Consultancy Services (4.88 points) and Maruti Suzuki India (4.65 points).
However, Bharat Heavy Electricals contributed fall of 9.45 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Infosys (9.41 points), Hindustan Unilever (9.25 points), H D F C Bank (7.97 points) and Housing Development Finance Corporation (6.14 points).
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Maruti Suzuki India (1.73%), Cipla (1.44%), Reliance Industries (1.17%), Dr Reddy"S Laboratories (1.06%), Bajaj Auto (1.00%), and Jindal Steel & Power (0.86%).
On the other hand, Bharat Heavy Electricals (4.13%), Hindustan Unilever (1.54%), Hero Motocorp (1.11%), Bharti Airtel (0.91%), Infosys (0.59%), and H D F C Bank (0.54%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.45% and 0.30% respectively. The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were A B G Shipyard (4.06%), Apollo Hospitals Enterprise (1.3%), Alstom India (0.56%), Amara Raja Batteries (0.39%) and Anant Raj (0.31%).The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were Adhunik Metaliks (1.6%), Aanjaneya Lifecare (0.72%), Styrolution ABS (India) (0.45%), Trident (0.33%) and Action Construction Equipment (0.27%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Consumer Durables index was at 7,739.72, up by 158.22 points or by 2.09%. The major gainers were Gitanjali Gems (2.35%), Titan Industries (2.31%), Blue Star (1.14%), Symphony (0.93%) and T T K Prestige (0.3%).
The Oil & Gas index was at 9,446.58, up by 87.42 points or by 0.93%. The major gainers were Bharat Petroleum Corporation (1.57%), Castrol India (1.42%), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (1%), Cairn India (0.99%) and G A I L (India) (0.47%).
The Realty index was at 2,217.91, down by 20.66 points or by 0.92%. The major losers were D L F (3.87%), Sobha Developers (1.12%), Oberoi Realty (0.24%) and Godrej Properties (0.07%).The Capital Goods index was at 10,460.87, down by 34.75 points or by 0.33%. The major losers were Bharat Heavy Electricals (4.13%), Alstom T&D India (0.58%), Bharat Electronics (0.5%), A I A Engineering (0.45%) and Crompton Greaves (0.23%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was positive with 1,305 advances against 1,132 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
Jet Airways (India) topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 476.60 million. It was followed by Bharti Airtel (Rs. 454.39 million), Asian Paints (Rs. 421.60 million) and Suzlon Energy (Rs. 368.41 million).
The volume chart was led by Suzlon Energy with trades of over 14.34 million shares. It was followed by Tata Power Company (3.40 million), Sanghi Industries (3.40 million) and Essar Oil (3.00 million).
