Sensex trades flat above 20,000; RIL, HUL rally 2%

Indian marketsturned flat with positive in late morning trade on Wednesday. Buying isbeing witnessed in consumer durables, realty and oil & gasstocks. However, FMCG, power and auto faced the brunt of profit booking.
At 11.32 am, the Sensex was trading up 18.63 points or 0.09% at 20,009.53 with 16 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 6.95 points or 0.11% at 6,056.85 with 30 components gaining.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 23.90 points or 0.12% at 20,014.80, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a rise of 15.10 points or 0.25%, at 6,065.
Sensex Movers
Reliance Industries contributed rise of
38.45 points in the Sensex. It was followed by I C I C I Bank
(19.99 points), Hindustan Unilever (11.89 points), Oil &
Natural Gas Corporation (10.14 points) and Tata Steel (4.31
points).
However, I T C contributed fall of 34.51 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Housing Development Finance Corporation (15.36 points), H D F C Bank (6.32 points), Tata Motors (6.27 points) and State Bank Of India (4.05 points).
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Reliance Industries (2.02%), Hindustan Unilever (1.97%), Cipla (1.52%), Sterlite Industries (India) (1.46%), Tata Steel (1.33%), and I C I C I Bank (1.26%).
On the other hand, I T C (1.78%), Tata Power Company (1.60%), G A I L (India) (1.38%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (1.06%), Tata Motors (0.94%), and NTPC (0.83%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.20% and 0.13% respectively. The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were A B G Shipyard (1.25%), Apollo Hospitals Enterprise (0.67%), Alstom India (0.5%), Allcargo Logistics (0.28%) and Amtek India (0.25%).The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were Styrolution ABS (India) (2.06%), A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (1.74%), Aarti Industries (1.34%), Trident (0.55%) and Action Construction Equipment (0.54%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Consumer Durables index was at 7,575.02, up by 132.18 points or by 1.78%. The major gainers were Rajesh Exports (5.76%), Bajaj Electricals (2.7%), Titan Industries (1.89%), Blue Star (1.24%) and T T K Prestige (0.38%).
The Realty index was at 2,204.82, up by 27.05 points or by 1.24%. The major gainers were D L F (2.35%), Unitech (1.71%), Phoenix Mills (1.69%), Indiabulls Real Estate (1.23%) and Sobha Developers (1.15%).
The Oil & Gas index was at 9,407.86, up by 108.39 points or by 1.17%. The major gainers were Indian Oil Corporation (1.82%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation (1.24%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (1.19%), Castrol India (0.39%) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (0.24%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was negative with 1,155 advances against 1,169 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
Reliance Industries topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 496.12 million. It was followed by State Bank Of India (Rs. 369.66 million), Crompton Greaves (Rs. 280.45 million) and Housing Development and Infrastructure (Rs. 266.10 million).
The volume chart was led by Housing Development and Infrastructure with trades of over 3.44 million shares. It was followed by Cals Refineries (3.22 million), Crompton Greaves (2.61 million) and Suzlon Energy (2.32 million).
