Sensex turns negative; ONGC, RIL drag

Indian equities turned negative in noon trade on Monday ahead RBI policy tomorrow.Realy, auto and banking stocks gained while power stocks witnessed a fall.
At 12.15 pm, the Sensex was trading down 12.59 points or 0.06% at 20,090.94 with 13 components falling. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading lower by 6.00 points or 0.10% at 6,068.65 with 26 components falling.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 25.47 points or 0.13% at 20,129.00, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a rise of 7.45 points or 0.12%, at 6,082.10.
Sensex Movers
Reliance Industries contributed fall of
27.34 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Oil & Natural
Gas Corporation (15.11 points), Housing Development Finance
Corporation (7.23 points), Larsen & Toubro (5.8 points) and
Hindustan Unilever (5.72 points).
However, Tata Motors contributed rise of 11.08 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Mahindra & Mahindra (7.72 points), Tata Consultancy Services (6.09 points), Wipro (5.18 points) and Sterlite Industries (India) (3.89 points).
Major gainers in the 30-share index were G A I L (India) (2.59%), Sterlite Industries (India) (1.92%), Hero Motocorp (1.83%), Wipro (1.79%), Mahindra & Mahindra (1.60%), and Tata Motors (1.51%).
On the other hand, Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (1.77%), Reliance Industries (1.45%), Hindustan Unilever (0.92%), Coal India (0.91%), Jindal Steel & Power (0.76%), and Bharti Airtel (0.64%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.15% and 0.55% respectively. The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Allcargo Logistics (1.82%), Aban Offshore (1.8%), Amtek Auto (0.96%), Alstom India (0.27%) and Amara Raja Batteries (0.12%).The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were Adhunik Metaliks (3.05%), Trident (2.71%), A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (1.44%), Advanta India (0.46%) and Reliance MediaWorks (0.13%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Realty index was at 2,209.56, up by 25.93 points or by 1.19%. The major gainers were D L F (1.62%), Indiabulls Real Estate (1.31%), Anant Raj (1.15%), Godrej Properties (0.87%) and Parsvnath Developers (0.26%).
The Auto index was at 11,192.48, up by 121.24 points or by 1.10%. The major gainers were Hero Motocorp (1.83%), Mahindra & Mahindra (1.6%), Maruti Suzuki India (1.23%), Exide Industries (0.7%) and Bajaj Auto (0.47%).
The Oil & Gas index was at 9,438.64, down by 97.2 points or by 1.02%. The major losers were Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (1.85%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (1.77%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation (1.05%), Indian Oil Corporation (1.04%) and Castrol India (0.12%).The Power index was at 1,968.86, down by 9.01 points or by 0.46%. The major losers were Adani Power (2.59%), Reliance Infrastructure (1.66%), A B B (0.72%), C E S C (0.27%) and Bharat Heavy Electricals (0.09%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was positive with 1,371 advances against 1,105 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
Lakshmi Machine Works topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 449.91 million. It was followed by Housing Development and Infrastructure (Rs. 395.22 million), Jet Airways (India) (Rs. 367.32 million) and State Bank Of India (Rs. 254.16 million).
The volume chart was led by Suzlon Energy with trades of over 9.04 million shares. It was followed by Birla Cotsyn (India) (5.66 million), Housing Development and Infrastructure (4.83 million) and Unitech (2.42 million).
