Sensex trades up 42 pts; Realty, bank rally

Indian equities continued to gain in noon trade on Wednesday. At 12.04 p.m., the Sensex was trading up 42.05 points or 0.21% at 20,023.62 with 18 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 8.35 points or 0.14% at 6,056.85 with 25 components gaining.

The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened flat with a rise of 15.47 points or 0.08% at 19,997.04, while the broad based NSE Nifty began flat with a gain of 4.35 points or 0.07%, at 6,052.85.

Sensex Movers

I T C contributed rise of 25.48 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Bharti Airtel (20.37 points), H D F C Bank (17.27 points), Housing Development Finance Corporation (13.9 points) and Larsen & Toubro (8.01 points).

However, Hindustan Unilever contributed fall of 28.32 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Tata Motors (12.86 points), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (9.45 points), Tata Consultancy Services (7.8 points) and I C I C I Bank (4.9 points).

Major gainers in the 30-share index were Bharti Airtel (3.74%), I T C (1.37%), H D F C Bank (1.17%), Cipla (1.15%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (0.93%), and State Bank Of India (0.88%).

On the other hand, Hindustan Unilever (4.55%), Tata Motors (1.76%), Hindalco Industries (1.13%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (1.11%), Bajaj Auto (0.86%), and Tata Consultancy Services (0.84%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.

Mid & Small-cap Space

The BSE Midcap index was at 7087.48 down by 2.57 points or by 0.04%.The major losers were A B G Shipyard (0.81%), Allcargo Logistics (0.75%), Allahabad Bank (0.66%), Alstom India (0.4%) and Aban Offshore (0.17%).

Sectors in Limelight

The Realty index was at 2,255.64, up by 20.63 points or by 0.92%. The major gainers were Indiabulls Real Estate (2.75%), Oberoi Realty (2.07%), D L F (1.76%), Phoenix Mills (1.09%) and Parsvnath Developers (0.13%).

The TECk index was at 3,813.79, up by 17.78 points or by 0.47%. The major gainers were Bharti Airtel (3.74%), Idea Cellular (2.68%), Dish TV India (0.47%), Mphasis (0.31%) and Oracle Financial Services Software (0.26%).

The Bankex index was at 14,484.68, up by 49.58 points or by 0.34%. The major gainers were H D F C Bank (1.17%), Federal Bank (0.77%), Indusind Bank (0.72%), Kotak Mahindra Bank (0.54%) and Canara Bank (0.08%).

On the other hand, the Consumer Durables index was at 7,514.08, down by 44.22 points or by 0.59%. The major losers were Titan Industries (1.38%), Bajaj Electricals (1.06%), Symphony (0.59%), Gitanjali Gems (0.29%) and Blue Star (0.03%).

Market Breadth

Market breadth was negative with 1,160 advances against 1,382 declines.

Value and Volume Toppers

Hindustan Unilever topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 569.14 million. It was followed by Housing Development and Infrastructure (Rs. 335.48 million), Bharti Airtel (Rs. 279.57 million) and Ajanta Pharma (Rs. 274.77 million).

The volume chart was led by Manappuram Finance with trades of over 4.17 million shares. It was followed by Housing Development and Infrastructure (3.07 million), Reliance Communications (2.37 million) and Kingfisher Airlines (2.24 million).
