Sensex trades up 74 pts; HDFC, Tata Motors rise

Indian equities gained in early trade on Tuesday. At 10.03 a.m., the Sensex was trading up 74.24 points or 0.40% at 18,413.24 with 20 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 24.75 points or 0.44% at 5,596.15 with 31 components gaining.

The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 83.69 points or 0.46% at 18,422.69, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a rise of 33.40 points or 0.60%, at 5,604.80.

Sensex Movers

Housing Development Finance Corporation contributed rise of 29.49 points in the Sensex. It was followed by I T C (13.01 points), Tata Motors (9.23 points), Tata Consultancy Services (9.19 points) and H D F C Bank (8.88 points).

However, Infosys contributed fall of 12.53 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Grasim Industries (2.25 points), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (2.23 points), I C I C I Bank (1.64 points) and Bharti Airtel (1.07 points).

Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Housing Development Finance Corporation (2.09%), Tata Motors (1.55%), Tata Power Company (1.03%), Tata Consultancy Services (1.03%), G A I L (India) (0.88%), and Sterlite Industries (India) (0.78%).

On the other hand, Infosys (0.93%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (0.67%), Hero Motocorp (0.32%), Bharti Airtel (0.23%), Coal India (0.14%), and I C I C I Bank (0.12%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.

Mid & Small-cap Space

The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.45% and 0.57% respectively. The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Aban Offshore (1.31%), Alstom India (1.03%), A B G Shipyard (0.75%), Allahabad Bank (0.52%) and CORE Education and Technologies (0.49%).The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (1.01%), Styrolution ABS (India) (0.92%), Aanjaneya Lifecare (0.74%), Advanta India (0.54%) and Reliance MediaWorks (0.42%).

Sectors in Limelight

The IPO index was at 1,783.64, up by 20.45 points or by 1.16%. The major gainers were C.Mahendra Exports (8.64%), Birla Pacific Medspa (3.08%), Acropetal Technologies (1.09%), A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (1.01%) and Aanjaneya Lifecare (0.74%).

The Consumer Durables index was at 7,442.16, up by 61.64 points or by 0.84%. The major gainers were C.Mahendra Exports (8.64%), Gitanjali Gems (1.98%), Rajesh Exports (1.42%), Whirlpool Of India (1.19%) and Blue Star (0.81%).

The Realty index was at 1,903.99, up by 14.42 points or by 0.76%. The major gainers were Anant Raj Industries (1.94%), Godrej Properties (1.7%), Housing Development and Infrastructure (1.15%), D L F (0.78%) and D B Realty (0.74%).

On the other hand, the TECk index was at 3,357.38, down by 4.43 points or by 0.13%. The major losers were Idea Cellular (1.01%), H C L Technologies (0.54%), Dish TV India (0.33%), Bharti Airtel (0.23%) and Mphasis (0.19%).

Market Breadth

Market breadth was positive with 1,167 advances against 670 declines.

Value and Volume Toppers

United Spirits topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 289.77 million. It was followed by Eicher Motors (Rs. 287.53 million), L&T Finance Holdings (Rs. 229.04 million) and Zylog Systems (Rs. 215.39 million).

The volume chart was led by Zylog Systems with trades of over 3.06 million shares. It was followed by L&T Finance Holdings (3.02 million), Greaves Cotton (1.20 million) and HT Media (1.11 million).
