Sensex trims losses; CG, Power, Oil & Gas down

Indian equitiespared some of its losses in post noon tradeThursday after positiveEuropean opening.Capital goods, power and oil & gas traded lower.
At 2.17 pm, the Sensex was trading down 60.16 points or 0.32% at 18,842.25 with 20 components falling. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading lower by 26.80 points or 0.47% at 5,733.30 with 36 components falling.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a decline of 122.67 points or 0.65% at 18,779.74, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a fall of 51.10 points or 0.89%, at 5,709.
Sensex Movers
Larsen & Toubro contributed fall of
19.62 points in the Sensex. It was followed by ICICI Bank (18.51
points), Infosys (14.23 points), Reliance Industries (13.86 points)
and Housing Development Finance Corporation (12.78 points).
However, Tata Motors contributed rise of 29.24 points in the Sensex. It was followed by State Bank Of India (14.4 points), Bharti Airtel (5.6 points), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (3.63 points) and Reliance Communications (1.79 points).
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Tata Motors (4.96%), State Bank Of India (2.07%), Bharti Airtel (1.33%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (1.08%), Wipro (0.65%), and Bharat Heavy Electricals (0.51%).
On the other hand, Tata Power Company (2.07%), G A I L (India) (2.04%), Larsen & Toubro (1.75%), I C I C I Bank (1.25%), Infosys (1.05%), and Jindal Steel & Power (1.05%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Sectors in Limelight
The Capital Goods index was at 10,994.63, down by 127.59 points or by 1.15%. The major losers were Lakshmi Machine Works (1.71%), Alstom T&D India (0.93%), Bharat Electronics (0.81%), Crompton Greaves (0.75%) and Havell"S India (0.5%).
The Power index was at 1,984.91, down by 14.67 points or by 0.73%. The major losers were G M R Infrastructure (1.88%), Reliance Infrastructure (1.56%), Adani Power (1.5%), Crompton Greaves (0.75%) and JSW Energy (0.56%).
The Oil & Gas index was at 8,282.30, down by 55.68 points or by 0.67%. The major losers were G A I L (India) (2.04%), Petronet LNG (1.67%), Cairn India (0.98%), Reliance Industries (0.82%) and Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (0.56%).
On the other hand, the Realty index was at 1,918.47, up by 19.76 points or by 1.04%. The major gainers were Godrej Properties (6.67%), Anant Raj Industries (4.81%), D B Realty (3.97%), Indiabulls Real Estate (1.28%) and D L F (0.33%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was negative with 1,255 advances against 1,494 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
Cairn India topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 2,630.76 million. It was followed by United Spirits (Rs. 1,795.21 million), State Bank Of India (Rs. 1,103.80 million) and Tata Motors (Rs. 863.73 million).
The volume chart was led by Cairn India with trades of over 8.02 million shares. It was followed by L&T Finance Holdings (7.51 million), Kingfisher Airlines (7.13 million) and Birla Cotsyn (India) (4.18 million).
