Sensex down near 80 points; Tata Power, Infosys fall

Indian markets dropped in early trade on Thursday erasing earlier gains. At 10.06 a.m, the Sensex was trading down 79.50 points or 0.42% at 18,822.91 with 24 components falling. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading lower by 28.95 points or 0.50% at 5,731.15 with 41 components falling.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a decline of 122.67 points or 0.65% at 18,779.74, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a fall of 51.10 points or 0.89%, at 5,709.00.
Sensex Movers
Infosys contributed fall of 16.47
points in the Sensex. It was followed by I C I C I Bank (15.24
points), Larsen & Toubro (12.3 points), I T C (11.62 points)
and Reliance Industries (10.89 points).
However, Tata Motors contributed rise of 23.19 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (4.85 points), Bharti Airtel (0.62 points), ACC (0.23 points) and Mahindra & Mahindra (0.08 points).
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Tata Motors (3.94%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (1.44%), Coal India (0.34%), Bharti Airtel (0.15%), Bajaj Auto (0.08%), and Mahindra & Mahindra (0.02%).
On the other hand, Tata Power Company (2.02%), Infosys (1.22%), G A I L (India) (1.13%), Larsen & Toubro (1.10%), I C I C I Bank (1.03%), and NTPC (0.85%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small capsdropped lesscompared withtheir larger counterparts declining 0.22% and 0.15% respectively.The major losers in the BSE Midcap were Allcargo Logistics (1.65%), Aban Offshore (0.76%), Allahabad Bank (0.25%), Alstom India (0.08%) and CORE Education and Technologies (0.02%).The major losers in the BSE Smallcap were Action Construction Equipment (2.29%), A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (2.21%), Reliance MediaWorks (1.37%), Aarti Industries (1%) and Aanjaneya Lifecare (0.59%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Power index was at 1,981.36, down by 18.22 points or by 0.91%. The major losers were G M R Infrastructure (1.41%), Adani Power (1.3%), Reliance Infrastructure (0.87%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (0.68%) and Crompton Greaves (0.09%).
The IT index was at 5,769.82, down by 47.64 points or by 0.82%. The major losers were Hexaware Technologies (1.6%), Mphasis (0.51%), H C L Technologies (0.49%), Oracle Financial Services Software (0.22%) and CORE Education and Technologies (0.02%).
The TECk index was at 3,355.83, down by 21.04 points or by 0.62%. The major losers were D B Corp (1.6%), Reliance MediaWorks (1.37%), Mphasis (0.51%), Dish TV India (0.46%) and Oracle Financial Services Software (0.22%).
On the other hand, the Auto index was at 10,744.88, up by 93.25 points or by 0.88%. The major gainers were Tata Motors (3.94%), Bosch (0.48%), Cummins India (0.16%), Bajaj Auto (0.08%) and Mahindra & Mahindra (0.02%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was negative with 794 advances against 982 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
Tata Motors topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 339.96 million. It was followed by United Spirits (Rs. 224.29 million), State Bank Of India (Rs. 207.34 million) and L&T Finance Holdings (Rs. 126.91 million).
The volume chart was led by L&T Finance Holdings with trades of over 2.09 million shares. It was followed by Tata Motors (1.21 million), Unitech (1.12 million) and Lanco Infratech (1.07 million).
