Sensex trades 1% higher; CG, FMCG, IT rally

Indian markets continues to trade higher towards closing on Friday led by capital goods, FMCG amd IT stocks. At 2.42 p.m., the Sensex was trading up 178.91 points or 0.96% at 18,740.61 with 24 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 46.40 points or 0.82% at 5,691.45 with 41 components gaining.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 130.45 points or 0.70% at 18,692.15, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a rise of 51.30 points or 0.91%, at 5,696.35.
Sensex Movers
ITC contributed rise of 43.36 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Larsen & Toubro (26.7 points), I C I C I Bank (21.47 points), Infosys (15.54 points) and Tata Consultancy Services (14.07 points).
However, Bharti Airtel contributed fall of 8.74 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Reliance Industries (7.2 points), Hindustan Unilever (2.3 points), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (1.87 points) and Jaiprakash Associates (1.14 points).
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Bajaj Auto (2.82%), G A I L (India) (2.56%), Larsen & Toubro (2.39%), I T C (2.33%), Hero Motocorp (2.07%), and Mahindra & Mahindra (1.82%).
On the other hand, Bharti Airtel (2.08%), Jindal Steel & Power (0.99%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (0.56%), Reliance Industries (0.43%), Hindustan Unilever (0.33%), and Tata Power Company (0.05%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps underperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.22% and 0.58% respectively.The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Hexaware Technologies (1.66%), Delta Corp (1.52%), Arvind (0.96%), Andhra Bank (0.33%) and Amtek Auto (0.14%).The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were Adhunik Metaliks (4.49%), A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (3.16%), Aegis Logistics (0.9%), Reliance MediaWorks (0.49%) and Aarti Industries (0.27%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Capital Goods index was at 11,092.25, up by 167.70 points or by 1.54%. The major gainers were Larsen & Toubro (2.39%), Lakshmi Machine Works (1.66%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (0.9%), BEML (0.6%) and Bharat Electronics (0.55%).
The FMCG index was at 5,713.23, up by 74.80 points or by 1.33%. The major gainers were Jubilant FoodWorks (3.32%), I T C (2.33%), Godrej Consumer Products (0.65%), Dabur India (0.44%) and United Spirits (0.14%).
The IT index was at 5,805.32, up by 72.63 points or by 1.27%. The major gainers were Hexaware Technologies (1.66%), H C L Technologies (1.21%), Infosys (1.15%), Oracle Financial Services Software (0.95%) and Mphasis (0.05%).
The Auto index was at 10,661.73, up by 128.10 points or by 1.22%. The major gainers were Bajaj Auto (2.82%), Hero Motocorp (2.07%), Ashok Leyland (1.91%), Mahindra & Mahindra (1.82%) and Exide Industries (0.67%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was positive with 1,585 advances against 1,250 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
Dr Reddy's Laboratories topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 700.17 million. It was followed by State Bank Of India (Rs. 501.61 million), Union Bank Of India (Rs. 426.25 million) and United Spirits (Rs. 404.02 million).
The volume chart was led by Cals Refineries with trades of over 11.78 million shares. It was followed by Ashok Leyland (5.98 million), Kingfisher Airlines (5.39 million) and Northgate Technologies (4.80 million).
