Sensex gains over 150 points; CG, IT rise

Indian markets gained on Friday. At 11.06 a.m., the Sensex was trading up 163.36 points or 0.88% at 18,725.06 with 26 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 48.50 points or 0.86% at 5,693.55 with 46 components gaining.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 130.45 points or 0.70% at 18,692.15, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a rise of 51.30 points or 0.91%, at 5,696.35.
Sensex Movers
Larsen & Toubro contributed rise of
26.55 points in the Sensex. It was followed by I C I C I Bank
(23.89 points), Infosys (22.74 points), I T C (18.33 points) and
Tata Consultancy Services (11.69 points).
However, Hindustan Unilever contributed fall of 4.6 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Bharti Airtel (4.03 points), Tata Motors (3.29 points), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (0.17 points) and Maruti Suzuki India (0.86 points).
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Larsen & Toubro (2.38%), Bajaj Auto (2.32%), Mahindra & Mahindra (1.90%), Hindalco Industries (1.89%), Hero Motocorp (1.88%), and Sterlite Industries (India) (1.76%).
On the other hand, Bharti Airtel (0.96%), Hindustan Unilever (0.65%), Tata Motors (0.56%), and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (0.05%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
Sectors in Limelight
The Capital Goods index was at 11,127.15, up by 202.60 points or by 1.85%. The major gainers were Bharat Heavy Electricals (1.74%), BEML (1.38%), Bharat Electronics (1.21%), Crompton Greaves (0.85%) and Alstom T&D India (0.24%).
The IT index was at 5,820.77, up by 88.08 points or by 1.54%. The major gainers were Hexaware Technologies (2.47%), H C L Technologies (1.85%), Infosys (1.69%), Tech Mahindra (1.56%) and Oracle Financial Services Software (1.47%).
The TECk index was at 3,383.16, up by 43.11 points or by 1.29%. The major gainers were Reliance MediaWorks (1.67%), Oracle Financial Services Software (1.47%), Idea Cellular (1.17%), Dish TV India (1.07%) and Deccan Chronicle Holdings (0.14%).
The Realty index was at 1,825.94, up by 22.55 points or by 1.25%. The major gainers were D B Realty (2.38%), Godrej Properties (2.01%), D L F (1.25%), Anant Raj Industries (1.12%) and Indiabulls Real Estate (1.08%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was positive with 1,510 advances against 799 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
Aditya Birla Nuvo topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 274.99 million. It was followed by Jindal Steel & Power (Rs. 256.13 million), State Bank Of India (Rs. 181.22 million) and Reliance Capital (Rs. 174.17 million).
The volume chart was led by Ashok Leyland with trades of over 5.53 million shares. It was followed by Kingfisher Airlines (4.87 million), Cals Refineries (1.88 million) and Lanco Infratech (1.74 million).
